IB.. where besides New York?

Do almost the investment bankers and hedge fund managers that have ridiculously high salaries all live in New York? Are the a lot of those types of firms all over the United States. How about California? Just curious, thanks.

One thing that should be noted is that investment banks’ offices outside NYC (regional offices) typically are specialized.

For example, many investment banks have regional offices in California (in the San Fransisco and Menlo Park area) that mainly – if not solely – focus on technology deals due to the close proximity to Silicon Valley.

The offices in Texas tend to focus on Energy and Power deals.

The reason why many people prefer to work at the world headquarters (i.e. New York, Tokyo, and London) is the amount AND variety of deal flow these offices see.

As for hedge funds, you will find them highly concentrated in NYC and Greenwich, CT, but there are some located in other areas, such as Texas, especially the Dallas area.

Chicago gets some fairly diverse deals as well.

Hong Kong is the Asian headquarters for most BB banks (excluding Japan)

what about LA?

yes LA and SF has a some bb firm offices there as well as boutiques.
