Ib ?

I hear people on CC talking about IB programs all the time? what are they? my schools only offers normal, honors, and APs. whats IB stand for?

i have no idea what it is either. But i'm pretty sure someone mentioned it's more important than AP's. therefore, it must be really hard.

i personally feel that IB exams are slightly easier than AP, but they are generally viewed as equal in terms of difficulty. what makes IB more difficult is that there are many other requirements to fulfill during high school than taking tests; there are internal assessments, essays, extra curric things etc....so it eats up your life, unline AP which eats up only some of your classes.

IB is a full program and course load. So if you do IB you basically have your whole high school schedule set. You have requirements of higher level (HL) and standard level (SL) classes that you have to take. Higher level means two (or more possibly) years of a course. But before you take HL you have to take the SL.....example SL Physics junior year and then HL Physics senior year. All of these classes cumulate into getting your IB diploma.

At my school a lot of the kids that are the children of Diplomats take IB because they might move around a lot. But also its a lot of smart kids and of course you get some kids that take it just to take it (not really serious). But my older brother told me not to take it because basically the work will take up your whole time. Its not really that it's harder....its just more work.

Unlike AP where they cover a few topics in great depth. IB stresses knowledge in a lot of various subjects.....but not in great detail like AP. So you learn about more, but not as much if you get what I mean.

IB stands for the International Baccalaureate Programme.

Actually, it is not required that you take the SL class before the HL class. HL classes are 2-year courses.

I would say that in general my IB tests were easier than my AP tests...but in combination with the other requirements ontolme mentioned, IB was more difficult

Comparing IB and AP classses/tests are difficult. AP is basically a test, IB is truly a curriculum.
