Ib

Any idea how Amherst adcoms views full diploma IB students?

I visited Amherst this summer with my 2 DSs who are both doing the full IB and asked the admissions person who was there this very question. His response: "We consider the IB the strongest program a high school student can present". I hope he didn't say that just to make us happy. ;) I think that as the IB becomes more common in the states, more adcoms are recognizing how truly rigorous it is and how well it prepares students for college level work.

AP Tests are great for showing how many facts and formulas you have memorized, IB exams show your ability to completely explore a topic in a given discipline, which is what college professors want.

All that I can tell you is that there are quite a few IB kids on campus. Also, you can place out of many intro courses with an IB. I know this is not necessarily tied to admissions, but I posted it just to allow you to get an idea of Amherst's policy in this field.
