Just had my first Ibanking interview at a MM firm. I think it went pretty well, but I'll be able to shed some more light if I can invited to the Superday

Congratulations! Mind sharing any information about your background? College? Major? Extracurricular activities? I’m sure many people here interested in IB would be very interested to hear.

Definitely,

I go to a pretty good public school, non target though. The company just started recruiting at my school last year. They started coming here because they had an analyst at my school and they really liked her work. Last year they picked up another anaylst and an intern (who received a fulltime offer) so we’re really starting to build a base for them.

I talked to the analyst about what they’re looking for. He said that the first thing they’ll do is drop everyone with low GPA’s. Out of about 70 resumes they received they only interviewed 8. There were people with 3.85’s that were turned away. After that he mentioned having an Ibanking internship is huge, after that any sort of financial services or corporate finance experience would be good. EC’s didn’t seem like that big a deal.

As far as myself, I have a 3.96, corporate finance experience. Some of the EC’s or campus involvement activities, I’ve been a tutor, treasurer of an organization, and am VP of the finance club. (But again I don’t think these things are a big deal.)

I really feel at this point it’s about fit, so we’ll see. If I make it to the Superday I’ll have more info to share.

sounds good keep us updated!

Update, just got a call yesterday and have been invited for the super day.

If you don’t mind me asking, what school do you go to?

^LOL you cant figure it out. is your prospective job in NY? are there any other areas for IB?

I’m not particularly educated in colleges, but a good public school in New York sounds like Binghamton?

cutiger= Clemson University Tigers.

That makes sense…

workingATbig4,

I think you need to quit this whole accounting thing. The FBI could use someone like you haha.

And no this position is in Atlanta, and as far as other areas for IB other than NY, there definitely are, but keep in mind this interview isn’t for a bulge bracket. Some of my classmates have received interviews for some boutiques and middle market firms in Charlotte.

Also,

If anyone is interested in corporate finance positions I just finished a second round interview with a fortune 250 company and could offer what little insight I have.

Cuti–Good for you. I hope you get the job. And if you do, advocate for your school in the future.

Morrismm, thank you, and that’s a great point. This company wouldn’t be recruiting at my school if it wasn’t for a former Clemson grad that really campaigned for us.

On a side note, a Clemson student actually had the highest score ever for the first round of GE’s FMAP and gave all credit to the education he received at Clemson.

I’m a big believer in advocating for school and trying to build a brand and a strong reputation.
