Icahn Scholars Program at Choate

Yesterday I received a call from the Icahn Scholars Coordinator at Choate. She asked me to do ANOTHER interview (I've already completed the standard interview at Choate in November) specifically for the Icahn Scholars Program. Did anyone else get a call like this? Is anyone else applying as an Icahn Scholar? Is this a good or bad sign? Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

Did you have a great standard interview?

My daughter had two interviews for Choate, one with a Choate admissions director and another with the the Icahn rep. From what I was led to understand that is common practice.

maggie2, was your daughter accepted to Choate or is she a current applicant?

assign, my standard interview went well I suppose-- the interviewer said “Oh my gosh, if you get into Choate you just HAVE to come here!” and told my parents I was someone they wanted at Choate. I’m not sure, they might just say that to everyone though.

she is a current applicant

Hey Pinkdragonfly,
I’m an applicant for the program too. The coordinator of the program calls everyone that financially qualifies for the Icahn Scholars. It doesn’t mean you got the scholarship, it just means you might. I guess this would not be a good or bad sign. I got a call from the coordinator and our interview was very relaxed and also enjoyable. When I asked her how many people applied for the scholarship, she said about 70-80 people applied.

Did you submit the PFS early? Is the interview on or off-campus?

assign…we submitted our PFS in early January, though they did encourage us to do it as early as possible. The interview was off campus, though it could be either on or off campus depending on your location. From my understanding it is one woman who interviews all the Ichan aplicants, though I am not 100% sure.

Hi! I’m in 8th grade, applying for the Icahn Scholarship to go to Choate for high school. I’m currently finishing up my essays, which are supposed to be 3,500 characters. I don’t know if you are an Icahn scholar, but do you know if it would be acceptable if they are up to 4,000 characters, and if I would be penalized for that? Thanks
