ick! unexpected language problem.

So, as I was browsing over the Syracuse website once again I noticed that one of the freshman requirements happenes to be 3 years of a foreign language. This is a huge problem for me, because a.) my school doesn't offer a 3rd class for any language and b.) even if I could try to go to the local community college (I'm not sure it's offered there either) I don't have any room for a language next semester. Is this a huge problem?

It very well could keep you from being admitted. I would email admissions and inquire. I would also see your gc and ask what they offer. Many schools require 3 years of foreign language. There are some schools that will allow 2 years of one language, and 2 years of a different language.

And at some schools the requirement is the eqivalent of three SEMESTERS of college level foreign language. So perhaps you will pass by registering for an 'Intermediate Level' class, if your high school credits will permit a waiver for Spanish I (for example) and Spanish II. Read your university's requirements carefully.

same thing happened to me. i went and took japanese at my community college tho so u prolly can do the same.

If your school doesn't offer a 3rd year, I'm sure you would fall under "extenuating circumstances." Just email admissions and talk to your counselor about it--ask them to make a notation on your counselor statement.

I got in with only two years, and my school offers up to five years of spanish and french... they'll definately understand if you couldn't even take a 3rd.

i remember when i was really interested in syracuse i had the same problem so i called hte admissons office the lady was really nice about it on the phone and i told her that i had only taken 2 years of a language she said that as long as you kept taking college level classes you were fine
