I'd adore you if you'd chance me

Hi there! I'm Hannah. I applied to Brown ED and am also looking at Oberlin, Hampshire, Amherst, NYU, and Emerson (safety). Please chance me!

Class of 2009
Attending a private, non-religious, very small and super competitive college-prep K-12 school in the suburbs of D.C. (so it's MD really...)

I'm a white Jewish female.

Academics:

GPA: 3.97 (I don't know if that's weighted or not, which I know is irritating...but I don't think there's a significant difference between my weighted and unweighted GPAs)

Classes: Senior year: Grade 12 Humanities (sort of an English/History/Social Studies combination; it's a required course), AP Calculus, Physics, Chorus, AP Lit

Other noteworthy things...: 3 years of Spanish (up to Spanish 5), 4 years of Chorus, AP Biology, 4 years of lab science, AP Statistics

Test scores:

SAT: 2300 (CR: 780, M:720, W:800)
SAT II: Biology: 700, Literature: 740
APs: English Language: 5, Biology: 4, Statistics: 4

Extracurriculars:

Every single play/musical ever, tons of major roles.
Chorus for 4 years.
Varsity Lacrosse sophomore year.
Writing club member for 4 years, president junior and senior year.
National Honors Society 2008-2009

Community Service
Volunteered at Montgomery General Hospital all through 9th grade
Volunteered at Aspen Hill Library in 11th grade

Other:

Two published novels--this is my big thing!--wrote about this in one essay
Science Award in 9th grade
Humanities Award in 9th grade
Socratic Award for Humanities in 11th grade
School trips to Hong Kong, Spain, and Italy--wrote about these in another essay
I was Homecoming Queen...(my college counselor made me put this on my application)

Obviously writing is my strong suit, so I feel like my application essays were very strong.

Please chance me! I'd really appreciate it.

Oh, I totally forgot–I’m Student Government secretary.

Your qualifications are awesome! The numbers are great – such a high GPA at such a competitive school is wowww. The novel thing is sweet. And although people here seem to kinda look down on school awards (which I assume your Science and Humanities ones are), I think yours are good because they show that you’re respected in your (academically strong) school… and I love that you got a Science one AND Humanities ones; they show how well-rounded you are.

Also, I’ve seen a few of your posts and you seem like a cool person. So if you showed your personality in your essays (which I’m sure you did, since you’re a writer), I think you’ve got a great chance at all your schools.

Good luck… hope we both end up Brown '13. :D

Thanks so much! I would loooove to see you at Brown :D

I planned all through high school to be a Biology major…and then recently had a “What am I thinking???” epiphany and switched to Literary Arts. So happy I did.

u definitely have good chances!!!I am sure u will get in to most of them…
Good luck!!!

can u chance me back?

Your GPA is really good, considering you’re going to a K-12 college prep school & SAT scores are good too! And publishing two novels! wow, writing about that in your essay was probably a good choice. I’m sure your essays will be great. You definitely have a good chance at all those schools. Best of luck!

All around i see no holes in your application and your SAT is great. Brown is a bit unpredictable but i would say you have a very good shot! All the other school’s i say you’re practically in. Good luck!

Thanks so much! You guys are doing wonders for my self esteem :D

well you did quit varsity lacrosse, so that’s not going to help

Haha, the varsity lacrosse credit is a joke, to be perfectly honest. I’d never played lacrosse before in my life, and my school has 100 or so people in the high school, so anyone who wants to play gets on varsity. I needed a P.E. credit.

I am not an athlete by any means.

looks very solid in terms of tests/classes/ECs
since you’re a writer, you’ll probably have really good essays too, so I don’t see any reason why you shouldn’t get into those others schools, but Brown - Good match/low low reach

you seem like you’d fit at Brown! good luck :D

I think your quals are awesome and you’ll probably get into most or all the schools you applied to? Your SAT’s are great and your ECs are strong (the novels are impressive).
Good luck!

You have great chances! Good luck ^_^

Good thing to drop biology as your intended major (science teachers never seem happy). I’d say in but curious, did you take the hardest courseload possible? If you did then no problems at all but if not, I’d still say in but eh, doesn’t matter. Good luck.

Hey when–thanks for the question. I didn’t, and my less-rigorous courseload is my greatest weakness, I’d say.

Well, how many opportunities did you skip out on a harder work schedule?

I took AP Bio in 10th grade instead of Chemistry (the typical track for my school is Biology in 9th grade, Chem in 10th, Physics in 11th) which meant I did Chemistry in 11th and Physics in 12. I didn’t take AP Spanish this year because it was just too grueling. I only took one AP junior year. I could have taken AP U.S. History and didn’t.

But I have taken at least one AP every year since 10th grade.

you have a good chance!
I think you it’s a low match. the fact that you published two novels wowed me. your SAT’s scores are great as well.
Brown looks for academic extremists and you seem to be one of them. Good luck@

yeah number one thing is course difficulty and ECs i think. so you seem like you have a good chance not STELLAR but good
chance me?

Wow ur amazing
just a little thing, ur EC doesn’t look as fascinating as the best applicants the Admofficers look at. However other parts, well basically every part other than ECs, are simply fascinating and u’ll probably be one of the most attractive applicant for even Brown (esp. when you applied as ED applicant!)
Even other than brown, it seems to me u have great chances, though I’m not familiar with Oberlin.
