i've been seeing information from ED applications about their "AI (X out of 9)"... is this a score that is shown on the status page as our application is evaluated?

No. It's just a formula that includes scores and class rank which is one way to determine how strong of an applicant you are. There's a link to an AI calculator on this site.

keep this list and see how many get in and then how many end up there.

Just FWIW: I found this on the Rice website: 1979

1979
The Student Senate Association urges Rice to drop requirements that two-thirds of entering classes must be from Texas. Although the policy derives from Rice's charter, the policy is slowly and quietly abandoned. By the mid-1980s, more than half of the students will be from outside Texas.

I wasn't able to find the actual charter - just references to changes in the charter.

Anxiousmom: In my interview, I asked about diversity on campus and how diverse a campus where 50% of students were from Texas could be. My interviewer, an '04 graduate, went on to say that that many texans wasn't a big deal and that the number stays at around 50% because it was dictated as such in the charter. Additionally, as someone mentioned earlier, my interviewer said that half of the texan population is from the Houston area. So, 25% of Rice is from Houston.

do most people who apply ID get deferred like typical ED decisions?

sunkist - yes, there is deferral if you don't get in ID... it's basically EA.

and wow... if there's a charter, then it might actually be EASIER for Texans to get in vs. out-of-state students...

me too

from TX, applying to weiss science, #2 pick, no interview

Here's the calculator link http://www.collegeconfidential.com/academic_index.htm Good luck to all of you!

Does Rice use the AI? My S goes to a high school that not only does not rank, it also does not weight grades, and all courses there are honors or college level. So the AI really would not show what he's like at all........
