I'd like to become an Investment Banker

and buy and sell real estate on the side. What the hell should I major in? I was thinking of doing a double major of finance and economics. I'd have to somehow squeeze an MBA into there too if I wanted to start making some real cash, help me out here

Don’t jump to conclusions.

hmom should have a better answer, so I’d wait for her. I have no idea what to major in for IBanking. Though it is my understanding that there is a deal that must be struck at a crossroad in Louisiana;)

It really depends where you go to school. If you are not at a target school (top 20 school) then your best bet might be to major in CS or Math and apply to an MS in Financial Engineering at Princeton or Columbia. It’s really tough to get your foot in the door if you don’t go to a target and you don’t have any connections in the industry, and those top MS programs can help.

Investment Bankers work 80 to 100 hour weeks. If you do the math, I think you will realize that investment bankers simply don’t have the time to sell real estate on the side. If you are still interested in investment banking despite the long hours, you could consider doing Real Estate Investment Banking.

wouldn’t we all?

Not me. I want to be a business owner and use I-bankers for my own goals.

I’d rather stick needles in my eye.
