I'd like to know where I stand.

My SAT is 2160, and my GPA 3.8.

I've participated in a plenitude of extracurricular activities, and hold much internship/work experience.

My father is an alumnus, and both my sister and my brother-in-law are currently attending NYU. (To what extent is alumni affiliation factored into the decision?)

I've applied to CAS and have not as of yet received any sort of notification or even the slightest hint of a decision. Living in NYC, I see no reason for a postal delay, so this must not be the case.

I hear rumors and myths concerning the notion that not applying for financial aid helps secure a greater chance of acceptance. Is this true? Because this is precisely what I did.

Should I feel compelled to believe that because I have received neither an invitation nor a letter of acceptance, my situation is indicative of rejection?

colleges generally like legacies. If your sis and bro attend, it might be an indication to admissions that you too will choose to attend.

I've heard the myth about financial aid too...I indicated on my app that I want financial aid and they didn't outright reject me, putting me in GSP I think had more to do with me and my transcript than my money.

No CAS kids I know have heard so far except for the ones that applied for CAS and got GSP'd. So if you haven't heard, it means either Rejection or Acceptance, not GSP because I live on LI and found out weeks ago. Could be either one, I think you'll be accepted and good luck :)

I received a card for the admit day thing, as well as one informing me of my admission early (i.e., my packet will come soon, but they let me know I've been admitted). I applied to CAS, RD, and was admitted.

Not everyone received those cards, though, and I haven't received my actual packet yet, so I'm sure yours will be coming soon. I heard the actual admissions packets/decisions have been mailed out this week.

Good luck!

Sadly, I was rejected. I am so distraught.

shanboy51, i was also rejected with a legacy and good stats

sorry to hear it guys :(

g'luck to both of you with your other schools.

how do you guys know? i haven't heard anything yet...feels like i'm gonna be rejected too

molly, you're wrong, on the nyu forum the admissions board stated that the final batch of GSP letters will be mailed out either today or tomorrow. there's still hope.

yeah sorry I checked it and it says more GSP letters are coming through...I don't think anyone's really hoping for gsp though, since you can't apply to that program directly so they're hoping for admissions to the college of their choice. Good luck guys

Wow, given your stats this is very surprising. Sorry to hear about your decision. Not sure if you want to dwell on it now, but were there any special circumstances --- GPA strongly trending in the wrong direction, very low scores on one section of the SAT, weak schedule in the context of your school, low class rank, red flags in the recs, booboos on the app, incomplete app (missing SATII's, did not send in scores, etc)
