I'd really appreciate any feedback for Dartmouth at all!!

i'm a junior in a fairly competitive school in ny

so right now dartmouth is my top choice, and i know it'd be a long shot so i'd definitely apply ED if it remains my favorite.
any feedback on chances for dartmouth, upenn, brown, columbia, wash u?

So, what do you think my chances are?

sat: not taking
sat II: taking math level 2 and us history this year
ACT : 34
GPA : 97 clear upward trend
rank:school doesn't rank but it would put me somewhere within top 5% for comparison

extra curricular:

Varsity/JV bowling - All League top ten in league junior year. in addition, multiple sportsmanship awards

JSA- Director of Expansion and Publicity-some other officer position senior year

Bridges To Community-traveled to Nicaragua twice building homes

Youth Basketball Coach 10-12: roughly 60 hrs of community service

Camp Counselor during summers each year

Ultimate frisbee club sport - 11th/12th

Spanish NHS and regular NHS
- may be organizing some tutoring junior year

awards: some random awards in excellence in math/chem/history/span/engineering

I'm really open to hearing anything, any advice on things to do to help my chances.

Sounds like you have as good of a chance as a lot of people for getting into an Ivy, but they’re pretty much always reaches. You should absolutely go for ED. If you did take the SAT and showed a very good score on that, as well, it would also help greatly. So would going to Nicaragua again (it sounds almost like a yearly thing- sorry if I’m wrong).

WUIStL may be a low/mid reach. The Ivies are, as for almost everybody, flat-out reaches.

[Please chance me- will chance back!](http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/886683-please-chance-me-will-chance-back.html)

I agree with Wulfran, you should take the SAT.
And your extra-curricular activities seem a little undeveloped.
Although the stints in Nicaragua are awesome!
I have a few friends who got into Wash U with nowhere near the credentials you’ve got.
And a friend who got into Penn with academic standards below yours.
So, I’d say mid to high reaches for all, except Wash U.
Although I hear asking for aid at Columbia can be a problem.

i was under the impression that act would be sufficient. my guidance counselor didn’t seem to think sat would help any more.

Does an SAT score really look better than a comparable ACT score?

Your ECs worry me, though I’ve seen kids from competitive schools get in without “curing cancer” get in (whereas kids from little known schools have more to prove). Your best bet, assuming you’re in love with Dartmouth, is ED.

No. I think previous posters meant that you may do better on the SAT.

yeah my psat was quite a bit lower. plus, in general i found the sat sections to be trickier.
i am taking the act one more time though, so you never know if it improves. but i’d still have to call it unlikely that my act could jump a point.

I didn’t mean that it would look better than the ACT- only that you might do better on it, since it seems like the SAT is more formulaic, so it’s easier to drive up your score on it. If you find it harder, though, then you’re right, you probably shouldn’t take it. (This might also just be me, but people who take the ACT and the SAT, instead of just one, have always looked either just a bit more dedicated or a bit more overachieving…)

And about the guidance counselor thinking that the ACT would be enough without the SAT- they may well be right, but it’s probably worth checking with another person who’d have a good idea about it, probably a Responsible Adult or something. This is probably also just me, because my guidance counselors are pretty fail-y and don’t really know much about what they’re doing, but it’s usually best to second-check…

I think you’re doing well, but I can’t quite see your interest from your EC’s. WUSTL seems like a match and Ivies are always reaches [no one can promise you anything with them haha].

Good luck! Develop those EC’s :)
