Hello all, I’m new here but this site looks like a good community and seems really helpful.
I’m a HS Senior from Idaho and trying to decide which college is the best choice for me. I haven’t 100% decided on what I want to major in but I’m leaning towards history, maybe with geography or anthropology as a minor. I’ve spent the last few days on the road touring colleges on my spring break and can’t make up my mind on which is the best option. Does anyone have some opinions or experience with the colleges in this area?
I’m mostly thinking about U of Idaho, Idaho State, Lewis-Clark State College, and College of Idaho. I really like the small size/feel of Lewis-Clark and College Of Idaho but C of I is pretty pricey, though I’ve heard lots of good things about it. Lewis Clark is significantly more affordable but I’ve heard mixed things about it, though they’ve apparently been working to improve over the last few years. ISU seems alright and has a good price with some technical programs I might be interested in, but I don’t really like the location. U of I is pretty huge which I’m not a huge fan of but I hear many good things about it. I’m not overly interested in Boise State but it’s on the table as well. My problem is that every college seems to have some things going for it and some against, and I need to get it narrowed down. Thanks for any input!
Have you been admitted to all of them? Or are you a junior visiting colleges?
For your chosen majors, I’d go with College of Idaho or UI, especially if you got or can get into The Honors program. For History, English, and other humanities, peer quality is essential, since good classes will be discussion based.
Have you looked into WUE universities? Is there a reason why you are limited to Idaho?
What are your stats?
Yes, I’ve been admitted to all of them. I wanted to stay in Idaho to save some money and stay close to home. I could have gone for WUE schools but I decided I would rather stay close. I have a 3.97 GPA, and I took APUSH, AP world history, AP compsci principles, and AP us gov and lit this year. Also concurrent precalc and geology.
Excellent. You have a very strong background with a high GPA, so you’d be a prime candidate for Honors at UI (where the best students will be, especially for History/English).You may even get an extra scholarship!
I’d still say UI Honors or College of Idaho (if it’s affordable). The Honors Program would help making UofI feel “smaller”, especially with the Honors Living-Learning Community and Dorm.
If you have an ACT or SAT score:
If you don’t, you should send a History or English paper:
Thanks! I’ll have to look more into the honors program. College of Idaho is one of my top choices but if I can do UI honors for less money then it sounds pretty appealing.
