Hey everyone! First of all I'd just like to thank all of the wonderful posters on this site, I don't think I honestly could have EVER accumulated so much insightful knowledge without these forums (my parents are from outside the U.S. and I didn't know much about how higher education worked in the U.S. just a couple years ago and now I'm Duke! Thanks so much :)

Now for my question: mot people advise applying early for medical school. when exactly is considered early? say I wanted to take one of those mcat prep courses (the kaplan one $1899, for a few months like jan-may) so when should I take the test/apply for school? june?

that sounds like a perfect schedule. most schools are rolling admissions so the earlier you apply the better, and you can submit your primary app starting early June.

The earlier you submit your primary application, the better - the application opens within a few days of June 1st, and and as long as you take your MCAT before that (preferably so that you have your score already and can decide whether its worth it to apply or try again), you’re good.

It would be ideal to take the MCAT such that you know your score before you apply. If that does not happen, perhaps a Mat MCAT date; you could submit with one school (usually your instate option) so that your file can be in line to be verified.

By the time it is verified 10-14 days?? You ought to have gotten your score and determined your of schools. You can then add those schools to the application.

Work hard to get your letters of rec early. Even though my DD had most of hers early, one submitted late and uploaded it unsigned so she either leaves it out or waits for him to get it redone. Have them submit early to Interfolio so you have them when you need them.

Some profs want your PS before they write the letter, so get working on that early, too

April and May are where the majority of test takers take their MCAT. Apply as early in June as possible, but as long as you submit before July you are considered early. This is because most admissions offices do not begin sending secondaries until mid July or later.
