Ideal Pre-med Bio Major Curriculum

I just want ot know the ideal pre-med bio major curriculum that would allow a student to do well, yet not be too stressful (which is awk b/c Cornell is stressful) and allow time for ECs.

Fresh
Fall: Bio 1 w/ Lab, Chem w/ Lab, Calc 1, Writing
Spring: Bio 2 w/ lab, chem 2 w/ lab, calc 2, writing

Soph
Fall: Orgo 1
Spring: Orgo 2, stats

Now the classes that are left are: Biochem 1 & 2, Physics 1 & 2, orgo lab, genetics w/ lab, biochem lab, and 3 upper division bios for specialization

I am unsure of the best way to orient a schedule since most upper level bio require either orgo or biochem as a pre-req. Advice please.

Also did most of you take summer or winter classes, and if so, were they science courses for your major or just classes for your college requirements?

I took Physics II over the summer b/c I had to drop it during the school year. The remaining courses I needed for my major interfered with Physics and I wouldn’t have graduated on time.

I understand what you mean, but doesn’t it look bad to take a pre-med pre-req during the summer? Plus was physics easier then. In essence I do not understand one thing about it: I have heard that Physics 101 & 102 are autotutorial where the student studies the subject themselves. I find that retarted in a way b/c even though students meet with TAs to discuss the stuff that they read in the book, the TA does not know the types of exam questions or specifically what topics will be tested on the student’s exam. It would also suck if a TA can’t speak english and/or if he or she sucks at explaining. And there exists no warrant on how long a student should spend on the subject since there are no notes nor specific guidelines on what topics will be on it. Old exams can only help so much.

Well…I guess I’m going to have the take the risk of looking like I took the easy way out b/c there was no way I could afford to pay for more than my 3 years at Cornell.

Na sorry dewdrop. I didn’t mean to offend you. I was just asking overall. Sorry.

Also what textbook is used in animal physiology (bioap 311)? And orgo (chem 357)?

For Physiology we used Guyton 11th Ed…I’m sure it’s changed though.

What topics are covered in this course? Is it possible to see a syllabus as compared to say mammalian?

You could e-mail the prof…I don’t have my syllabus anymore.
