Hi, I was just wondering how I should plan my premed pre-reqs for freshman and sophmore year so that I can take the MCAT once (or maybe twice) junior year. I am most likely going to be a non-science major (english) and I have heard stories of people being unable to finish pre-med prereqs in time (extra year I don't have time or money for) , so I wanna know if anyone has ever been there and what they would suggest. Note: I read in a College Board book that most non-science major premeds have to take Biology and Chemistry freshman year (a bit much?) In any case any advice would definetly be appreciated.

I’ll be a freshman this year. As of now my planned schedule includes 1 science in the fall 2009, 2 in spring 2010, 3 in fall 2010, and 2 in spring 2011. This way, I will have completed all my pre-med science requirements so I’ll be fully prepared to take the MCAT in August before my junior year. I’m majoring in Neurobiology though, so a lot of my pre-med requirements overlap with my major requirements.

Take it in May before your senior year.

I disagree with eadad. Take it over summer if you are ready. That way, you don’t need to study during the year. That is what I, and a lot of other premeds, did. That being said, most do take it the spring of junior year. It also helps to take it when the material is fresh if you have taken all of the necessary prereqs.
