Ideal Stats (not too high to be nailed by safeties but not too low for Ivy rejection)

wow...i caused quite the argument. i must say, though, that all of these perfect-scorers getting angry about being disparaged is amusing :)

the ivies use the AI Index for their initial screening of students

This would matter if your score was in the 1200-1300 range. A 1590 would not radically lower your AI to put you into the auto reject pile.

The whole reason I said 1590 was because of the stigma and the often misleading grandiosity associated with a 1600.

Jyankees, go to <a href="http://www.collegeconfidential.com/academic_index3.htm%5B/url%5D">http://www.collegeconfidential.com/academic_index3.htm</a> to find out "what you're worth"

thedude:"Wow, this discussion has gotten off way off topic. I think legendofmax was asking for a range of scores that would not be detrimental in applying to an ivy league school, and would not get you rejected by safety schools(Schools are know to reject overqualified students because they assume they are applying as a backup plan)."

This is what I was getting at. Somehow it turned into a 1590 vs. 1600 debate which I didn't want.

Another question. Our school has shared rank, but I am truly Rank 1 if you take into account all my classes and grades in those respective classes (an average of 97/100 or above, which nobody else has). However, my GC said that "although others share his rank, his academic record shows a 97% achievement". I mean wha the heck does that mean to you?

Your GC is telling the adcoms that you are the best among those ranked #1, and in the process provides the additional information of your extremely impressive average. That is the strongest statement he/she can make, and is a very good recommendation.

The ivies admit those with high SAT and GPA at greater rates - for example, Brown -

<a href="http://www.brown.edu/Administration/Admission/gettoknowus/factsandfigures.html%5B/url%5D">http://www.brown.edu/Administration/Admission/gettoknowus/factsandfigures.html</a></p>

Harvard is known for rejecting 1600's - but they are admitted at a very high rate (for Harvard, anyway).

Ahh sou ka sou ka

It's a psychological thing. When someone asks what your SAT score is, I imagine it would feel kind of arrogant to say 1600. 1590 is fantastic but it's not perfect, and you can get some respect for that.

get higgh hiiiggghhh grades and a 1350 would be like OK

what is the ideal passing part for the academic index initial screening for most ivies, thanks

I purposely bubbled in an answer choice wrong to get a 1590; I'm cool like that.

foundnemo, that's super h4rdc0r3, and i'm being serious

i told u i was hardcore.

well this thread is very strange personally I don't understand why 1590 is better. Strange logic you people have

no, you said you were cool like that. regardless though, very hardcore indeed.

a 1590 is better in my opinion for several reasons. one, it's rarer than a 1600. second, it shows imperfectness, something every top student could get a little bit of. the people who are actually cooler in real life seem to get scores in the 1500s rather than the 1600s.

what is the ideal passing part for the academic index initial screening for most ivies, thanks

gosh...we don't have tests like this before going into uni here in holland, we do have a standardised test for 12 year olds deciding largely into what high school stream they will go...No one scores perfect on that test however, only one kid in my class, who has always been the one person ranking above me in every class we shared, lol...
