Ideas for extracurriculars

Just looking for some suggestions for ECs that are fun and compliment an application. I transferred in midyear last year (9th grade) so I missed out on a lot of the EC stuff that was going on, plus my school is very small and doesn't offer many clubs.

I'm on student government, and I play a sport, but I'm not a star player. I also go to regional astronomy club meetings once a month. I do some math club but I'm not epically talented like everyone else in it (I've never won any awards or anything and I kind of suck at math competitions); that's once a week. That's about it. Hopefully I'll be able to join the mock trial team (sounds fun and interesting even though I've never done it before). Is there anything I could do outside of school, or stuff I could start up easily? I'd really like to be involved in more activities, especially community service, but the community service options we have have to do with young children, and I'm just not that type. I'm also interested in science and sustainable energy related programs; I've been fantasizing about doing a fundraiser for an environmentally-friendly cause. Thank you!

(I feel like this might not be in the right forum. If it isn't, I apologize D: )

If you don’t like math club (which it sure doesn’t sound like you do), don’t waste your time on it.

Mock trial is an amazing experience regardless of what colleges think about it. The public speaking and critical thinking skills you’ll pick up from it are extremely valuable, and it’s tons of fun. If you’re good at it, you’ll also learn to be able to think on your feet while still sounding intelligent and confident, which is wonderful for any time you need to verbally BS.

If you want to do community service, look for organizations that are doing things that interest you in your area and contact them about volunteering. It’s usually easier to find something you really like if you don’t go through your school.
