Anyway, I'm a freshman, but I am preparing early as I want everything to be good such that I can get into top colleges for example: MIT, Cal Tech, UPenn (Wharton), etc.

As of now, I'm mainly interested in a business or engineering subject. I understand that extracurriculars are very helpful to one's admission and it shouldn't simply be just a list of activities that anyone can do successfully. The problem is, I need ideas for extracurriculars and how to get involved.

I am interested in doing almost anything. I just don't have any ideas. It'd be great if you could share your advice with me.

Dude, S&E is hard enough as is (I'm in another learning center in the district). If you get good grades in your classes, I'm pretty sure that you'll have a huge latitude of places to go to, extracurriculars or not.

This is said so often, but it is true: do what you LIKE and ENJOY, not something you think will impress colleges. You're a freshman-- you have 4 YEARS until you go to college.

Enderkin, I suppose you're in Med Sci? What's your name?

Anyway, I have a very wide scope of interests, just give me some ideas and I'll do what I like, I'm not going to take up something I don't like, it's just that I don't have any ideas.

I'm actually in the new learning center (LPS, laugh all you want). Call me Pat.

Here's my stuff:

Mock Trial

I mean, just focus on something you like. Like business? Future Business Leaders of America. Like engineering? Technology Student Association. Don't worry too much about getting a full plate now. Dabble. Go to a meeting or two, just to check it out and window shop a bit.

well, this is pretty easy, but racking up a lot of volunteer hours (200+) at a steady job (meaning, you do something x hours/a week, not like 40 small hours for a day each)

Ditto psychgirl. Seriously, chill. You don't need to start stressing about college now.

But to answer your question, do whatever you think is fun. Most of the time, it'll end up pertaining to what you're interested in majoring in, but sometimes do something completely out of the blue. Maybe you'll enjoy it. Don't do things JUST because it'll help you get into MIT (which, btw, is my dream school too ^.^).
For business, I've found DECA is good. As for engineering, it depends on what kind of engineering, but here's a few activities: Science Olympiad, science fair, MESA (if you're considered a minority), FIRST Robotics team, JETS. Oh, and academic decathalon is pretty good too. Try tutoring and volunteering too.

If you aren't creative enough to come up with something as simple as this...

Seriously. You're a freshman, there's a reason why we tell you not to stress out about college too early. You don't even know what you're doing, coming to this board for extracurricular ideas shows it. ;) If you don't want to listen, at least focus on academics and make sure you can handle them before committing yourself to someone else's idea.
