I'm considering helping start a spanish club at my school. Does anyone have any good ideas for such a club?

where do you live? what part of the country? i ask to see becuase if youre in ca or tx, then you can do more mexican themed activities, along with other stuff. if you're in ny or fl, then it can gonna be a lot more carribean themed ideas.

I live in Southern California

Well at my school, our Spanish Honor Society reenacted the Running of the Bulls that occurs yearly in Pamplona. The advisor set out a course through the hallways in which we were chased by the "bull" (SHS president, in this case).

LOL.. that sounds fun

lol @ "Running of the Bulls"...cool

Good luck with the Spanish club. My sister's Spanish club did something involving food. She made sopapillas for it.

Spanish movie watching

Playing games in Spanish, like Scrabble

Party w/ food, with spanish music in the background, and maybe a pinata!

Start a Spanish tutoring program

Scavenger hunt with clues in Spanish

Lol that's all i can come up for now

Yes, it was quite amusing, and I'm sure all the other students that witnessed our reenaction got a kick out of it. A group of 30+ juniors and seniors running through the halls with white T-shirts, red "bandanas" (napkins), red "sashes" (cut up tablecloth), and rolled up newspapers...Had to be a great sight : )

If not a Spanish tutoring program for the other students in school, try to see if you can go down to an elementary school and etach them basic spanish. The elementary schools in my townships teach the kids basic Spanish, but since many of the teachers don't actually know Spanish, we go down to the schools to reinforce proper pronunciation and to continue with the lessons. Songs, games, flashcards, repetition

Read Spanish poetry or literature out loud. Poetry would probably be easier, and if you can, find Chilean authors (out of all the Spanish speakers, Chileans have the most melodic and poetic way of speaking). They have an annual Quijote reading in Madrid, where people get together in a plaza and take turns reading for the whole day.

Find Spanish newspapers and find something to do with them (every Friday in Spanish we discuss something in the news or something controversial).

I know this doesn't sound fun, but it's actually really amusing to compare the accents and slang of different Spanish speaking countries. No, really. Find recordings and guess who comes from where.

Find Spanish myths (they're always cool) and retell them.

Honestly, I don't know what you do in a Spanish club. I'm trying to think of interesting things we do in class... really the most exciting thing we did was where students read their poetry to someone playing Spanish guitar.

Thanks, those are fantastic ideas!

Oh, if you watch Spanish movies, see if you can get Diarios de Motocicleta.

you can see amores perros. y tu mama tambien is good too...but its a REALLY provacative movie. both have gael garcia bernal, the guy from diarios de motocicleta/the motorcycle diaries. you can watch frida with salma hayek...but its also kinda provacative...

I was shocked by how much nudity was in Frida. lol

Buy a copy of the Marimar telenovela (180 minute version?) from eBay. I paid like $20 for it and enjoyed every minute of it. :) Lots of great visuals of Mexico. No subtitles, though, so the less-fluent members of your club may not care for it.

Just searched eBay under Marimar and Mari Mar and couldn't find the DVD version I got. :

All programs on the Spanish national broadcaster TVE are available on their website:
[TVE a la CARTA](http://www.rtve.es/alacarta)
including childrens programmes, educational programmes and mainstream series and films.

This has to be some use for Spanish clubs, you could watch the daily news for example…
