Ideas on Tablet PCs

I'm entering college this Fall and, in Aug., am going 2 buy a Tablet PC, preferably a convertible. Does ne 1 own one and absolutely love it?Or just recommend it? Ne1, like me, looking and found a gr8 1 4 a "mobile" college student? I've been searching and researching so ne input helps!

Thanx

I'm going to buy one as soon as I graduate in a couple weeks. I'm loving the toshiba m200. It's super light, only 4lbs, has a great screen, and can be found quite cheap.

also, using numbers in your posts as words is really annoying and makes it difficult to read. ;)

I am going off to college this fall. I was going to get a table pc but I also wanted a powerful laptop that wouldn't overheat(which some tablets are prone to do) , was cheap (under 1300) and I could play the sims 2 and simcity 4 on (simcity 4 requires a lot of processing power that most cheap tablets just don't have) then I discovered this little baby. http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,1759,1738379,00.asp its a been that records everything I write and sends it to by laptop and since I am going to be an Accounting and Comp. Sci. major its great for writing down formulas and I don't have to get a overpriced underpowered tablet.

Preztolkien:

Here's another review of the Logictech io2. Not a bad way to capture your notes, but the pen requires special paper in order to work:

$5.00 for a 50 sheet of Post-it notes

$9.00 for a 160 page spiral bound notebook

$15.00 for a three pack of 120 page spiral bound notebooks

$11.00 for 10 ink cartridges

Most, though not all reviewers, had few problems with the handwriting recognition that was converted to text.

While this device would work for hand written notes, what about your math formulas and charts? I'm guessing they would end up as Jpeg files which isn't very useful.

Take a look at Xthink.com's Mathjournal program written for Tablet PCs. Way more useful.

I can't argue with your need for a gaming system and your laptop budget.

I also have the toshiba m200 and it is really ownderful. i have never owned a laptop with som any feaures...SD, USB, 512MB, rotatable screen,etc....it is really amazing.....you can find them on ebay for a very reasonable price...i also have a dell inspiron 1100 but it is nothing like the toshiba...

Tabetpcbuzz.com listed these two links to a San Diego newspaper articles on Tablet PCs. Excellent articles...

I prefer to use a notebook because for some reason the depth of the text (how far it presses into the page) helps me learn...but to each his own

This is a great webcast from IBM (22 minutes) describing the release of the new X41 Thinkpad Tablet PC. The last five minutes of the presentation addresses academic use of Tablets (MIT/Harvard Medicial School).
