Ideas on where to start up

Ok first of all pleasmoe don't suggest moving out of the US. I immigrated here and plan to stay. Secondly, as I mentioned I immigrated and have some skin tone so I cannot move to very many places -- mostly I'm considering DC, VA, NC, TX and CA.

So I transferred to a UC school, graduated physics BS with 2.96 GPA from the UC (but the CC GPA doesn't count anyways, so that's my effective GPA). Needless to say I'm locked out of many jobs although I have worked for the past year in a lab on campus (but even my boss hasn't heard of anyone needing a recent physics grad).

I'm applying for a lot of things -- test engineering and software engineering are the ones I'm most interested in, though I've applied for things such as geothermal imaging engineer (job description was as cool as the title). Before people rag on me for my low GPA, know that it was a combo of a few things -- terrible teaching (x2 classes), depression (x2 quarters), outside circumstances (too long to explain, x1 class). I only lacked interest in GE requirements and I did apply myself. I was always above average on the experimental (aka lab) classes and am naturally good at writing software. Unlike most students, I cannot be a basement dweller -- I do not speak to my parents -- and on top of that I have a beautiful daughter (and my separation from her was the cause of depression), so I need a job really fast. Anyone have exceptionally bright ideas? I'm working my networking threads, linkedin, indeed, usajobs, etc. but so far I haven't as much as landed a single interview. I've had my resume and cover letters reviewed by the college's Career center and they've been OK'd multiple times.

So, any tips you may have in getting hired faster, I would appreciate :D

Are you a US citizen?

Not sure what you meant by this. I’m saying there are many very racist people in the US, and there’s a higher density of them on some states. Was that unclear?

Yes
