I am a rising senior trying to sort my way through picking colleges to apply to, and I am having a really hard time.

I don't know what my GPA would be, but I have a 102 average. My SAT scores were 2180. I took both APUSH and AP Bio junior year, and I managed to get a five on both exams. I have a lot of in school activities, but I don't have a lot of out of school activities or sports. I've worked 30-40 hours a week since I was 15.

I am looking for an urban/suburban school where I have a chance at getting a large amount of merit aid. It is highly unlikely that my family will qualify for financial aid, but my parents won't really be helping me to pay for college. I am also planning to be pre-med, so I want to go to a school with a good reputation. I was wondering how important an undergraduate schools reputation will be when applying to med schools. Any schools with combined undergrad/med programs would be amazing. I am from NY and I have visited several SUNY schools, but I just didn't really like them.

Sorry if this is a bit all over the place, but any suggestions or advice anyone could offer would be amazing.

I wouldn’t suggest Clemson. It’s in a rural area, doesn’t have a combined undergrad/med program, and doesn’t give that great financial aid. There is a scholarship you can get if you are in the top 10% of your class that allows you to pay in-state tuition in South Carolina but that may still be expensive for you.

Why don’t you look at the University Of Pittsburgh or University Of Washington? I don’t know about financial aid but those are some great schools with a great med reputation.

Siena has a combined BS-MD program with SUNY Upstate. Your stats look competitive, and you could very possibly get merit $. Also look at SUNY Geneseo- much smaller and different feel from the other SUNY’s- though it is rural, the price is right.

Which SUNY’s have you looked at? It’s difficult to paint all of them with the same brush as they’re so different from each other! Have you looked at UB? They offer merit aid up to a full ride, have a guaranteed acceptance program for qualified students, and are in a somewhat urban location. I believe they list the M/CR scores for recent recipients on their website. It sounds as if money will be a problem for you and either low COA or very substantial merit aid will be necessary…a combination of both would probably help so my advice would be to find and apply to at least one SUNY that you would be happy attending.
