The painting was under glass thankfully.
Someone could have eaten that soup.
What a waste of food.
Foolish and misguided publicity stunt.
It’s not bright.
The more idiotic or outrageous an act looks, the more attention it will attract. I’m surprised a person could be allowed to bring a can of soup into a gallery.
I hope they lock these people up, they make it harder for people to visit this museum now.
My understanding is that the painting is covered with glass. Soup was washed off and the painting is back on display.
I don’t condone vandalism, but it doesn’t seem accidental that the group chose a picture protected by by glass.
Definitely not laudable. Perhaps misguided is a better word than idiotic. They really could have made a bigger impact by throwing cans of soup on the doors at BP headquarters.
I don’t think throwing anything at a classic painting, which has been saved for future generations, is laudable.
I think it’s awful. I’m not an artsy person, but I love the fact that someone painted a picture for others to enjoy.
Yes, they got attention, but what’s to stop people from further throwing anything anytime?
Who could possibly think this is laudable. It’s idiotic, stupid and criminal. I truly don’t understand these tactics.
“Oh yea, someone threw tomato soup at a Van Gogh 10 million dollar painting, I guess I need to take climate change more seriously”
Idiotic, as was their stopping traffic on the DC beltway.
None of that type of stuff is ever going to win anyone over to their position. It’s far more likely to sway people to the other side of what they want.
$87M painting, apparently.
I happened to be driving on 495 when they stopped traffic. The back up was unbelievable. Talk about a waste of gas
Idiotic.
This - how do they even think they’re accomplishing anything good for the planet? It’s having the opposite effect. It’s sad that they can’t comprehend that.
Lot of salt in most canned soups. And we briefly touched $9 gas in places. This lesson wasn’t enough to learn that a disorderly exit from fossil fuels will create chaos.
So they went in a museum and destroyed or at least impacted a work of art ? Sounds criminal to me.
Not the right way to make a point. Hopefully they get some jail time. They won’t. But it would be great.
I’m all for protest. But that’s just so wrong.
I’m nervous they now will search for canned soup when I’m there. I had to sign up to get a ticket when I was there in 2021, the line was very long then, unlike other museums in London.
If you don’t take a can of soup with you, there is nothing to be nervous about :-). If you are nervous you will attract more attention
