Am I the only one on here who cannot stand pep rallies? My school does not usually have them, but they are supposed to be having one in a couple of weeks for homecoming, and this year the school has decided that it would fun to plan this idiotic idea:

Make a short video with your group of friends showing that you have the best school spirit! All of the videos will be shown at the pep rally, and the finalists will get to compete in some obstacle course for a prize while the whole school watches.

I don't know about you, but I hate the idea of sitting in a hot, smelly gym with a bunch of random kids (about 2500 go to my school) and watch the stupidity. I plan to walk out the door at the end of the day, and if a teacher asks where I am going, I will say that I have a doctor's appointment. How big is your school on pep rallies?

We like them because we want to get out of class. But as a pep rally, they suck. We have those random obstacle courses too that are completely irrelevant. The cheerleaders “perform” and get the crowd “pumped” except… not really

LoL, we had one pep rally that was slightly amusing last year. 4 teachers had to break a huge block of ice, put a new set of clothes on and then kick a field goal from 35 yards out, it was oddly entertaining. Otherwise, pep rallies blow.

Oh my gosh, tell me about it. We just had a pep rally today! I was crowded between a bunch of sweaty kids and their backpacks in bleachers with almost no leg room or sitting room. The only fun part was booing the Freshman, haha.

i don’t really mind the pep rallies at my school since we get out of classes early, and it’s much more bearable if i find my friends
every year, if we have one, it’s the seniors vs. the juniors, we’re always screaming at each other and even cursing
but generally, the pep rallies are absolutely pointless, sometimes it’s used to introduced the sports teams for that season
it’s weird cause in the pep rallies you can clearly tell that school spirit increases from freshman to seniors where the freshmen are all sitting their quietly, the seniors all have some coordinated cheer that are super loud and noisy
of course, it’s mostly jocks that are into the rally while the majority of nerds are all being boring

Why are you guys hating on pep rallies? Would you rather sit in class being bored to death or forgo academic pressures and have a little bit of fun? Pep rallies were one of the few FUN things about high school. And as a 4-year cheerleader, you guys are lucky we even performed for you unappreciative bastards.

I am sorry, but I just do not find the concept of walking around awkwardly trying to look for somebody to sit with, getting squished between total strangers and knocked in the back with knees and backpacks, and watching/hearing your principal, teachers, and classmates say corny jokes and do stupid obstacle courses entertaining.

at least you can sleep in class if the academic pressures are too high.

and surprisingly, I do have school spirit. I have participated in sports throughout high school, but I think that if people want to show their school spirit, they can do it in their own way, such as buying a school t-shirt or coming to games. Why be forced to watch a bunch of stupidity?

I am a senior and I’ve still never been to a pep rally. They force everyone to go to them during their 7th period class but I had 7th period tennis for the first two years and chose not to go to the pep rallies. Junior year I had tennis matches every single day we had a pep rally which was a rare coincidence. This year I don’t have 7th period and don’t have to go cause of that.

I feel like pep rallies just create artificial emotion/tension. They try to get us worked up, which is odd because the people who care are already excited and the people who do not care will not become excited because of a little pep rally.

I also find the whole class thing a bit disturbing. You know, all year, we are told that all of the students can be friends and respect each other. However, on Homecoming pep rally, that is all thrown out the window with our “class competitions.” It would be OK if these competitions were actually fun, but they are solely a contest to see which class can chant their motto the best. I still cannot say with certainty that I know my class chant. I think it is something mindless like constantly saying “Number Ele-ven, Num-ber Elevennnn, Yeah!”

And inevitably, the senior class wins the class chant. Yeah, I get it. The seniors are supposed to be the kings of the school, but seriously, they have to assert this in the form of a lame class chant? As a senior this year, I am not too excited about this pep rally.
