but i find it really hard to believe, that Duke's sat scores on collegeboard are so incredibly high, like they have jumped by like 60-70 pts in the last 2 years or so, which is really unbelievable to me.

According to College, Duke is now at 1380-1570, which just seems a lil bit far-fetched considering this is the level of Yale, Harvard, Stanford, and I know Duke is great, but I for one don't blieve they have a student body that talented. I could be wrong. But just like a year ago, I remember it being like a 1415 average or so. And what has happened to Rice, it has been stuck at a 1330-1530 for the last 4-5 years, and I have old u.s. news. It used to be one of the most selective schools (it still is), but others are surpassing it?

And U of Chicago was higher than I had expected
M, 660-760
V, 680-770

it's verbal, is as high as Stanford, and higher than just about every ivy besides H, y, P

You are wrong about Duke. It's on par with the lower ivies (ranks higer than most), has some outstanding programs that beat all ivies (BME for one) and is getting tons of the rejects from HYP.

Duke is on par with HYP. Think about all the renovations they are undergoing right now (wikipedia Duke and see renovations). Those are insane renovations! And they are attracting more of the world's top professors, even those from Stanford and Harvard and Penn.

bball- What's going on with you?? You used to just be concerned with SAT score's at Cornell. Now you are concerned about the SAT scores at Duke too?? It's a good thing the semester is over. I think you need a break from all this. By the way, How was Slope Day?? Are you planning to stay at Cornell or transfer out? Whatever you decide- Good luck to you.

I believe Duke admitted somewhere around 1,000 students this year with above 1550 on the SAT. They did admit 60% of students who had over 1550, which may have been out of 1,000 students or was a total of 1,000.

Frisbee, Duke is definitely not on par with the better ivies. Only someone that is affiliated with Duke would make that claim.

OP: I would guess that some schools that are aggressively trying to move up the ladder like Duke, Wash U St L or USC will strongly favor SATs in their admissions process in order to bolster their reputation. The very top schools can fill their entire classes with perfect or near-perfect SATs, but they don't, they look for overall quality.
