Is Rutgers considered really expensive? For me I consider paying $25,000+ per year for out of state tuition extremely expensive. Financial Aid won't make a major difference, and I aint smart/motivated enough to get them scholarships. Also in-state tuition seem a bit pricy as too... well whatever

On the admitted students guide it states that dorms cost around $8,500+ a year. My concern is why does it cost that much? I seen the rooms on the website, majority being basically a studio shared by a roommate and theres shared bathrooms on each floor. To compare a friend of mine at NAU is in a 3-person suite that has its own living room, kitchen, bathroom, etc. and I believe is paying only $3,500 - $7000 a year... hmm.

How prestigious is Rutgers? I know this question may seem a little ambiguous, but is Rutgers on the same par on say... UC Riverside or Irvine? University of Illinois Urbana? UNLV?

I would say Rutgers is fairly inexpensive. It's somewhat prestigious, more so on the graduate level--Irvine and Illionois are definitely better, but I'm not sure about the others.

With such a heavy instate population, rutgers is generally not considered an expensive school just because most there are paying in-state tuiton. I know all my friends have scholarships also so they end up just paying room and board. While you can compare dorms at different schools you must also remember that there are other factors concerning its price than just how big it is and what is in it. That 8500 is room and board, meaning and the meal plan also.

There was an open house on Saturday that had a tour of the dorms, so since then im sure the housing applications are flooding in, but freshmen are guaranteed housing, so you'll definitely be able to get something if you choose to enroll.

I'm a Rutgers alum. Rutgers is definitely considered a good school and it has excellent name recognition all over the country. It's also a great bargain, because a Rutgers education is what you make it. You can coast or you can hunt down the best classes, the best professors, the best students, the best programs.

Personally, I've never heard of NAU, but I would guess the cost of living is lower in Northern Arizona than in New Brunswick, which is very urban and only about an hour from Manhattan--still in commuting distance.
