Does anyone know the formula one would use to convert an unweighted GPA to a weighted one.

at my school they weight honors classes 1.0 better than unweighted. (ib or ap) so an A in an IB/AP class= 5.0, a B=4.0, C=3.0, but D still is 1.0. so to find your weightd GPA, I would assign those new points to your IB/AP classes. then add up all of your grade point values and divide by the number of classes you've taken to find your weighted GPA.

sorry if thats wrong. its how my school does it.

At my school they weight it just like that (an honors/AP A=5.00).
Then you take each course grade (the 5.00 or 4.00 or whatever) and multiply it by the number of credits you get for that class. Do this for every course. Add them all together, and divide by the total number of credits.
That's how it works at my school, so Lab classes are worth more than any other class.
