If the deadline for the IDOC is March 1st and I send in my tax return to the IRS right now will I make it in time for the deadline? I'm assuming that I get the 2010 federal income tax return from the IRS? I'm new to taxes and my parents don't work so I'm really confused.

OK I see that all I have to do is send my signed 1040 ez. Is this correct?

You’re fine, I just submitted my taxes yesterday and plan to do IDOC this week for March 1 deadlines.

You just need to send IDOC copies of your (and your parents if they file) tax returns, W2 forms and 1099. Just be sure to follow the IDOC instructions step by step and you’ll be fine.

x-posted, yes a copy of your signed tax for and any accompanying W2 & 1099.

Oh, and don’t forget the verification form, any additional school specific forms and a non-file form for your parents if they don’t file taxes. It’s all there on the instruction sheet.

For your parents, you will probably have to file “non-tax filer forms”. The verification form is not listed in my instructions. I don’t think everyone has to send that. The OP should carefully read the instructions provided when logging on to the IDOC site. You will have to send a signed copy of your tax return (just print it out, and sign it; you don’t need to wait to get anything back from the IRS) but you will also need to send your copies of your W-2s and any other forms like 1099s that you might have.

Does the IDOC take that long to get sent? I was only informed about my IDOC number and stuff at the beginning of February, but some of my schools have a February 15 ish deadline. I am trying to get it done ASAP, but from what I understand it will take about 2 days to reach the collegeboard destination if you send it via certified mail?

OK thanks everyone it seemed a little daunting at first but once you read everything it makes sense.

My parents haven’t recieved their 2010 tax return yet and so I haven’t STILL sent the IDOC. what should I do??? I should have sent them a long time ago.

What do you mean they haven’t received their return yet? Do you mean they haven’t received their refund – if so that doesn’t matter. If you mean they haven’t filed, you need to get them to do so ASAP. If you mean they can’t file yet because they haven’t received some documents they need to receive first, then (a) you need to contact all your schools and explain what is delaying your IDOC package, and (b) your parents ought to contact whoever is supposed to be sending them documents, as I believe that everything was “due” to have been sent out already by this point in the year.
