I just sent my IDOC in as well.

Check with the non-IDOC schools, some want the Tax forms and some don't. Some want them faxed and some mailed. sigh

CU Boulder said they were just getting ready to pull the FAFSA's next week. If I correct it now they said it will save me some time so I am correcting them this weekend. I was only off by $500 on the income and the rest is right but I was told to correct it anyway. sigh

Okay FAFSA is corrected too. My income has to be adjusted downwards less than $30 what I estimated in FAFSA initially.

Newparent: Every school is different. Read each school's financial aid website very carefully. If you have doubt about anything, call. Ask to speak to a financial aid officer; often a student answers the phones but you want to be absolutely certain that you get the correct information as to what is needed.

Make sure you not only check each school's website, but DOUBLEcheck it! I thought I had everything mapped out, but I just found out that I was supposed to send tax forms to one of the schools & somehow missed that. I found out by emailing the financial aid director. I had received an automated call about the f/a preferred date being the 15th. Because I had submitted FAFSA a couple weeks earlier, I called the number they left to check. I was told all forms were in. Two days ago, I received a letter encouraging me to get my info in. I ended up emailing the director & asking if I was missing anything. He emailed back & told me I needed to send tax forms. If I hadn't contacted him, I would never have known (actually, they would have eventually contacted me, but this way I've submitted things in a timely manner). The moral is, double-check ... and if they send you something, don't ignore it ... ask about it.

How do you know if you're supposed to do the IDOC???

IDOC is tied into the CSS/PROFILE. So if you didn't have to fill that out, you won't have to do an IDOC. If you did fill out CSS/PROFILE, the processing service actually lets you know if you need to do an IDOC. Not that many schools use it, and the two I had to do it for made sure we knew we needed to do it. It's not that bad ... you just have to do a verification worksheet (simple) and submit taxes & schedules. The pain part was that we also had to submit all 1099 forms, so I had a bunch of copies to make. But at least you only send 1 set of info, no matter how many schools it's for! :)
