IDOC for non-custodial parent

I have a question regarding the non-custodial parent's filing for IDOC.

After my non-custodial parent (mother) completed CSS profile for non-custodial parent, she also indicated that she didn't file any tax return since she has been unemployed. Then do I have to file a non-tax filer's statement for my mother, and send it along with my IDOC?

Please note that my dad is my custodial parent and he did sign a tax return in which I will be submitting to IDOC.

I hope to get reply asap.

Shouldn’t she be the one who files the non-tax filer’s statement?>

Yes - if the school you’re applying to required the noncustodial CSS Profile - they will also require the noncustodial IDOC. You can send it separately (from your Dad’s custodial IDOC) - just make sure your Mom sends the IDOC cover sheet, then she can attach the non-filers statement.

Thanx for the replies =)

Can I send it together with my dad’s custodial IDOC? Or she has to send it separately along with another cover sheet?

Most likely not because the main reason for a custodial and non-custodial profiles are that one parent does not have access to the other parent’s information. Just give your mother a heads up as to what she needs to do and have her mail her information. Also id she needs to get a statement from the IRS, it will take a minute for her to receive it so let her know now what she needs to turn in.

They can be sent together, or separately, as the IDOC instructions indicate. I did mine together… I had my dad (non-custodial parent) mail me his tax info, which he did, and I just added it to my parents’ packet. None of them saw the others’ information.

I just didn’t want to risk anything getting lost or misplaced by sending in two packets, as it seems like a very controlled, strict process (receiving the documentation, that is).

SeekingUni is right. It used to be that you had to send them separately. I sent them separately - one reason being that one of the schools D2 is applying to requested only custodial info (CSS and IDOC). I assume if it is all sent together they (IDOC) scan it as one file. I would rather NOT provide the noncustodial info if it is not required.

Thanxx for the replies again.

@NewEnglandMother: why would you rather not provide the noncustodial info if it is not required?

In my case the noncustodial has income and has remarried - so both the noncustodial and new spouse’s income will be included. If the school gets this information (when it is not required) it may result in less financial aid.
