Under "Family Information" for myself (Student), it asks for the college that I'll "be attending at least half time between July 1, 2011 and June 30 2012, and will be enrolled in a degree, diploma, or certificate program".

What if I don't even know what school I want to even attend yet?? I applied RD.

BQ: I know it says not to staple or paperclip forms, but my Dad is acting very paranoid and wants to at least staple the 2010 tax returns all together so nothing gets mixed up. Will that be a problem? Or did IDOC mean do not staple the entire package together?

A newbie here–re: staples. If it says no staples, I interpret that to mean NO STAPLES. Because they are scanning each page, my guess is that they don’t want to spend the extra time removing staples or risk tearing documents.

No staples - no paper clips - no post-it notes. IDOC is basically just a scanning service - and they scan a very high volume of paperwork - so don’t include anything that will jam up the works.

I wonder if one can send a note in the package? The IDOC’s requirement page says the package is due March 1, but D is applying to two IDOC schools, one of which is Smith and on Smith’s website it says the due date is Feb. 15. I was thinking of putting a note in with the Smith info (they have a supplemental form) stating the earlier deadline.

I don’t see a need to do that - just send it in well before the correct deadline. You can log back into IDOC a few days after you have mailed the pkg and check status - it will say that they have rcvd it. At that point - you know it is available to the colleges who use IDOC. One thing I have been doing every year is emailing my son’s school in February and just verifying that they have everything they need.

So here’s a question about deadlines- the March 1/ Feb. 15 deadlines-does this mean the package has to be to IDOC by then or are the documents supposed to be to the colleges from IDOC by those deadlines?

Your info has to be rcvd by IDOC by the deadline date. Here are some relevant FAQ from IDOC website:

Q: How long does it take to process my information once the College Board receives it?

A: It takes approximately five business days to process the information once the College Board receives it.

Q: If you receive my packet on the deadline date and it takes five days for this information to be sent to my college(s), won’t it be late?

A: The College Board notes the receipt date of your packet as the day we receive it from the U.S. Postal Service. Your colleges and programs are notified of this date and use it to determine if your information has been received on-time. They have taken processing time in consideration when setting their deadline dates.

Send in your packet as early as possible to ensure that your packet is received on-time. If you have any questions or concerns about meeting your IDOC deadline date, please contact your colleges’ or programs’ financial offices directly.
