<p>Does MIT undergrad accept the IELTS instead of the TOEFL? If yes, why don't they state it in their website? If no, why most MIT's Graduate departments prefer the IELTS to the TOEFL? It is the complete opposite of undergrad admissions!</p>
<p>No, the undergraduate admissions office does not accept the IELTS in place of the TOEFL. Undergraduate and graduate admissions are not done by the same staff – each graduate department runs its own admissions and can set its own requirements.</p>
<p>I understand that, but what are the reasons? It’s ironic for me at least.</p>
