if a student has low gpa, then why don't they just take easier classes?

engineering majors typically have lower gpa's than other majors. alot of gpa's fall below a 3.0 which is an automatic cutoff for many employer's trying to hire employees.

random scenario: if a mechanical engineering student has a 2.8 gpa by his senior year, why doesn't he stay an extra semester or yr to take easy classes just to boost his gpa at least above a 3.0? at least now he will be able to get an interview instead of just getting his resume shredded.

are there some sort of rules that prohibit this? or some other reason?

He can do that, but its a huge waste of money and time…and there are plenty of employers who WILL hire someone with a <3.0 gpa. My sister got interviewed at Microsoft with a 2.1…

If your gpa is less than a 3.0 then you don’t put it on the resume and you don’t tell unless asked. Thats why its not really worth it.
