I believe that the student will probably be reviewed again to compare him/her with the other RD applicants. If the adcom still feels like the student should be admitted, he/she will. That is what I think happens.

I mean, if I never applied ED and only did RD. Is that your response to this situation?

So I’m applying RD, get in Brown, and not PLME, I would get reviewed again by normal undergrad to see if they want me? that sucks.

Where can I find the essay topics ac requirements for plme? I can’t seem to find them anywhere.

In addition to the commonapp do I need to submit anything else to plme? (resume, recs from ppl IB medical fields, etc?)

Here is what to do lol:
-add Brown to your list of colleges
-go to the Supp App section on the left column and click on Brown
-start the supp app
-you will see all the essay questions!

There are 5 questions in total if you’re doing PLME.

3 are required for regular Brown undergraduate studies, and 2 of them are strictly for PLME.

Supplementary materials are not required, but you could if you’ve done something significant (e.g you’re a world-ranked athlete, you have an amazing art portfolio, you’ve personally started/headed a research project, you’ve published a paper)

If you are accepted to Brown University they then pass on your application to the PLME office. You can be accepted by Brown University and be denied by PLME.

Brown posts PLME ‘stats’ on their webpage. For the ‘Applied’ figure, does that include people who applied from the get go or people who were accepted to Brown then reviewed for PLME?

You guys are really overthinking this.

Brown wants to make sure it accepts students who want to go to Brown, and not students who only want to go to Brown for PLME.

And my gut tells me, based on what I’ve seen of admissions files, that the process is not that Brown accepts a student and then sends the file to the PLME folks.

I also know that for many students, Brown rethinks its decisions. There are some students who are immediately accepted and some who are immediately denied. For the vast majority in the middle, admissions sometimes changes its mind. Sometimes changes its mind more than once.

Viggy, I’m not sure I understand your question, but accepted means accepted – at the end, the number of students who got a letter that said, you got in.

And why does any of this matter? Why do you care in which order your application is read? Why do you care if admissions reads your PLME essays?

[Brown University: Program in Liberal Medical Education](http://bms.brown.edu/plme/prospective/stats.html)

^That. Where is says no. of applicants. I don’t know if that means people applying to Brown with an interest in PLME or people admitted to Brown and who are having their file reviewed by PLME people.

But, if what you say is true (review both at the same time), then my question is answered.

It means that 1,972 students applied to the PLME program, had their file reviewed for PLME. Again, I don’t understand the distinction you are making – I don’t think that distinction exists. 1,972 students applied, 106 were accepted.

it’s strange that they only matriculated around 50 people-what did the other 50 who were accepted do? I know if I got in PLME, I would be so ecstatic.

^They probably went to other Ivy League schools with the most likely culprits being HYP or to another program like Northwestern HMPE (better ranking med school) or USC’s BS-MD or Rice/Baylor’s program.

Oh yeah, HPME. I didn’t apply to it, even though the ranking may be better. I just prefer a more well-rounded education.
