I would say that any intellectual who identifies him or herself as politically left-wing is very immature when it comes to politics.

I agree entirely. Only highly immature individuals would use the word "right/conservative" or "left/liberal". It's like using the ord "evil" or "good". Let us face it, the real world does not permit any of those clinical terms to exist entirely. And yet, over 75% of the World's prominent intellectuals ascribe to what would be labled leftist tendencies. Very few prominent scientists or philosophers would be pro-life or anti gay oir anti-stem-cell research.

In general, Alexandre, that's true. But if you looked at the company of philosophers and other social scientists who specialize in issues like abortion, euthanasia, stem-cell research, and gay marriage -- moral philosophers, bioethicists, etc. -- I think you would find that the for/against ratio on them is much more balanced. Most moral philosophers I know lean to the right on these issues; philosophy students who approach these serious moral questions with an uncritical "Of course it's good! Duh! And if you don't think so, you're retarded!" attitude tend not to spend much time studying moral philosophy or bioethics, which aim to look at these issues critically and with scrutiny, from all sides.

CollegeConfidential is a hideout for middle class and upper middle class liberals. Why even conduct a poll to which you know the answer, OP? The real poll to get some intellectual activity started would be to say to liberals:

1) If your son died, would you sacrifice his body to stem-cell research?
Yes:
No:

2) Would you support seeing a gay marriage happen at your Church or somewhere in your immediate environment? If your son/daughter was homosexual would you support them in gay-marriage?
Yes:
No:

3) FOR GUYS -Would you support your daughter(or future daughter) having an abortion without your knowledge? Your girlfriend having an abortion without your knowledge? Your wife having an abortion without your knowledge ?

FOR GIRLS- Would you support having an abortion without telling your parents/significant other/husband?

YES:
NO:

I feel that would be a more interesting poll.

TheMK99, my answers to your poll are the same as my answers to the other poll:
1) yes
2) yes
3) no

Stem-cell research:
Yes: 41
No: 8

Gay marriage:
Yes: 38
No: 13

Pro-choice abortion:
Yes: 32 (politically speaking, not personally how I feel)
No: 16

Needless to say, stem-cell research, gay marriage, and pro-choice abortion passed by a large margin.

No surprise that CC members, some of the smartest people in America, are socially liberal overall.

Social and economic views have little to do with intelligence. People form their political views around what they value most, not their IQs.

Besides, posting a poll like this here is like asking a stadium full of rabid Yankee fans which baseball team is the best. You're totally excluding the vast population of highly intelligent non-prestige whores that don't visit this site.

I don't think s/he meant it literally.
