If deferred, do we just send in extra essays?

Just as stated above..
how do we go about making our application stronger?

Can we do it online?

I want to add maybe two additional essays.

Thanks!

yea can anyone answer this questioN?

i'm sending in an 2 essays, because i never submitted optionals to begin with (didn't realize the importance) also, plan to stay in touch with my ec... tho he isn't returning emails, and maybe a letter letting mit know it's still one of my top choices (i guess it's assumed with ea)

they cant assume with EA since its not SCEA or ED

I want to send stuff in, but how much is too much? I plan on having 2 additional recs, maybe an entusiastic letter or two from myself, a few newspaper articles, and a few of my friends are telling me that they're planning to send something (although I don't really know what). My file is pretty thick to begin with, and I don't want to come across as a desparate pest.

i dont think you'd look like a desperate pest, but rather a person who really wants to go to mit

Do what ya have to do to increase your chances :)

No one has yet to answer my question though.

I guess I'll just send in two essays along with my Midyear Report!

Both Ben and [url=matt.mitblogs.com]Matt/url will be answering the question, "What can I do to strengthen my chances in RD if I was deferred?" within the next few days: watch their blogs.

Thankyou (=

For the record, when I was deferred, I had a coach write me an extra rec. I don't know if it worked or not, but I got in, so at least it doesn't hurt. =P

Just be sure, if you're sending stuff to do it somewhat early, like before the end of Feb. And in terms of sending stuff, I was deferred last year as well and sent an updated resume (I think) and an additional essay ( I can't quite remember), but I'm not even sure if the additional stuff would have helped b/c I sort of sent my stuff in late and I have no idea if they, in the end, even considered it.

can u modify your Part II stuff?
I found...a bit too many mistakes (essays, etc)

thats what i'm curious about danielsjang.

Matt McGann has just posted a long entry, For Deferred Students. He answers all of the common questions about "what do I do now?" and adds some further comments. He specifically says, "Let your application stand," with regards to re-doing Part II or the essays or whatever. And he discusses why they will not tell you "why" you were deferred if you call or write to them. Recommended reading.
