Currently, I'm a freshman trying to transfer to Duke University- Trinity or the University of Pennsylvania- Wharton for my sophomore year. For freshman admissions, I was placed on the extended wait list for both schools but was not able to get off of either.

Does anybody know if it is easier to get accepted as a transfer student if one was extended wait listed in the past?

If you were wait listed at both schools than you were obviously a competitive applicant. So its not going to be “easier” but with a solid freshman year you will be competitive again…

Schools accept fewer transfer students than incoming freshman, so it is somewhat harder to get in as a transfer. However, you are up against a different applicant pool than you were before, so there is no telling how things will go for you this time around. I’m not sure whether they’ll actually know you were wait listed before unless they’ve asked somewhere on your application whether you have applied before. It will also depend on how you’re doing so far in your college classes, how much your personal essay has improved, and the strength of your letters of recommendation.
