If get C in major class, can I still go to UCLA?!?!!?

I have 4.0 GPA average before this spring. Major in Math/applied science. I already got accepted by UCLA. I am taking linear algebra this semester.
My question is that if i get a C in this class, can I still transfer to UCLA? will I be denied?
Thank you very much!

I hate linear algebra with a passion. Just try your best to get to get a B.

What does it say on your contract? It should tell you what grades you can or cannot get.

they said i cannot get a C in major class. if i do, i need to report. but i don’t know if it will affect my admission.

I’m in the same boat!!! I called today and although she couldn’t tell me anything definitive about a hypothetical situation she did give me a lot of hope!! She said getting one C ever and being rescinded for that alone is not likely. But it’s absolute for D or F grades and more likely for two Cs or a C and a few B, etc. She said try like hell for the B and not to report it until you get ALL of your final grades as they want to judge your semester as a whole.

I have to get an A on my final to get a B in the course. Just possible I guess. I just need to know if they’ll rescind me ASAP so I can still go to Berkeley if they do! Berkeley said I have to earn a 3.0 and report 2 or more Cs!!

@PreMedaholic Are the C and a few Bs only if that C is in a major prereq class? And did she say anything about overall GPA for the last semester? I called this morning and literally got nothing from the call whatsoever…

@PreMedholic That was soooooo bad! I am having two classes this semester. One is literature. I can’t get A in this class since i am an international student!!!It IS TOO HARD for me to get an A, but B i guess. if I get C in Linear Algebra I definitely will be below 3.0!!! That is soooooooooo annoying!!!

@wyz123
Then, i will take your UCLA spot. lol

I called admissions again this morning before work to try to get someone helpful. She basically(not affirmatively of course) said that since I’m in an impacted major, anything under a 3.5 this semester would have a good chance of getting me rescinded. Is this right?

It says on the contract, which most have received:

Maintain the grade point average and complete the courses and number of units you reported in your application and in any subsequent course updates. You must be in good standing at your last institution of attendance. Also, if you attended another UC campus in regular session prior to enrollment at UCLA, you must have been in good standing when you left that UC campus. Notify our office immediately of any withdrawals, incomplete grades, drop in academic performance [including 2 or more C grades, any D and/or F grades, any C grades in major preparatory courses], or other changes to your class schedule.

It doesn’t make sense. I’m supposed to maintain my GPA, but only notify them if I get 2 or more Cs…etc…

It makes sense because you have a 4.0. Thus, you must maintain a GPA near a 4.0. Does she mean 3.5 cumulative?

@Turin: Yes, I’m assuming that’s only if it’s in a prereq. She didn’t say anything to me about overall semester gpa.

Damn, I’m in an impacted major too :/

@wyz123: Try your best!! That’s all we can do!!

It’s said to notify them of any C grade for a major prep course so dude you need to bring that grade up. Start showing your professor that you are trying everything you can to get your grade up. Take every chance at his/her office hours. If you do end up with a C, there’s a chance that you can change his mind to let you have a B.

If its a 3.5 for the last semester, that’s pretty scary.

I honestly think she’s just overexaggerating, I mean could you imagine how many rescissions they would have if the cutoff was 3.5. This really isn’t great news since I haven’t been showing up to my classes for the past 2 months. I’m doing econ, which is the highest average GPA major, so it might actually be the case though. I’m sure most of you will be fine, I’d tell you not worry, but we know that’s not happening lol

I’m SIRing no matter what happens though so I’ll definitely post what happens, since it seems most past threads on the matter really never do. It’s ridiculous how they cannot just give us a certain cutoff that we need to live up to, it’s like playing russian roulette. Haas wants a 3.0 yet this place wants 3.5…it’s ridiculous

@Premedaholic I am gonna try like hell or to death to earn a B. gonna study 8 hours every day until the end. I have two more tests, including the final. I need to earn 90% above to get a B. I don’t want to end up with a cancellation. I had leadership, volunteering, and as well as work experience. But thanks for all you help and encouragement

My advice is to get a tutor if there’s any way you can possibly afford it (or if services are available on campus.) Talk to your professor and see if there’s any extra credit work you can do or if they will give consideration if you make a significant improvement on the final. Professors are often willing to work with you. Better not to risk being rescinded if there’s any way you can help it.

Managed to get the number of a Admissions Director today. Told me it’d be 50/50 if I received a 3.0 and she actually gave me the same 3.5 as a safe GPA to maintain…guess I won’t be sleeping for the next month…

Again this is for my own very impacted major, I’m sure they are much more lenient for the vast majority of other majors.

^ Wow, seriously? 3.5 GPA or we have a 50% chance of being rescinded? I’m also an Econ major. I’m taking only 2 classes for my final quarter, Calculus 2 and biology, that are considered a little difficult for me. That would mean I can’t even get a B in both since the GPA would be 3.0, giving me a 50% chance of being rescinded. I really hope that this isn’t true since it wasn’t specifically stated in the academic contract… :\ Thanks for letting us know what they told you over the phone.

No problem, really don’t want to stress you guys, but thought yo should know. The 3.5 comes from me having around a 3.9 now and getting a 3.5 this semester would drop my GPA to roughly 3.8 which is what she thought wasn’t a significant drop in GPA. I’m sure since you’re only taking 2 classes, a 3.0 would not have that much impact on your overall GPA which is what they seem to care about the most.
