Just curious because i really can't decide between two colleges. So would it be possible for me to go to one of the colleges for the fall and see how it is but go to UCB in the spring if i dont like it? Has anyone done that before?

You can do it at a community/junior college, but nowhere else pretty much

What about somewhere like USC?

Has anyone done this before? Had anyone went to another university for the fall semester?

Isn’t that double enrollment? I dont think that’s possible. You would have to SIR to two universities.

No you can’t

What does SIR stand for and what is stopping me from doing it.

SIR is the Statement of Intent to Register… You should have seen it while you were reading your acceptance letter of something… Nothing is actually physically stopping you from doing it, but then you would be enrolled in two colleges and would probably have to attend both for the next four years. Also, if they find out that you SIR’d to two schools then they will just cancel your acceptance.

Also, if you read your acceptance letter, I’m sure it tells you exactly what you CAN do. Anything other than that = no-go.

How would they find out? UC system is already low on money so I don’t think they’ll have a team of people finding out if each student is register to one school

Let me get this straight…you want to attend USC for Fall 2010 because you do not want to attend a cc until you go to UCB Spring 2011.
Of course, any courses you take at USC will not be reported to UCB.
Try it and report back to CC please.

He wants to try USC and stay if he likes it or go to Berkeley if he does not. I actually think it might be possible.

Yeah… try it… I’m interested in seeing how this will play out.

I had a similar dilemma (as a transfer student). USC was my dream school, but when I got into Cal I wasn’t sure anymore. I took a 6-week summer session at Cal, stayed at International House, fell in love with the school, people, and everything so I decided to stay. I’m graduating this summer and have zero regrets.

Also, I love the Bay Area and hate L.A… so I’m sure that had something to do with it.

Can you take a summer class at Cal or USC to try it out?

omg its totally the opposite for me. god dammit. why couldn’t i have gotten into USC!! and not berkeley…ugh

Just make it this has been done before/is okay to do. Last thing you want to do is to end up going to a community college after being notified that cal canceled your admission.

And then if they do find out, you may very well find that you no longer have a spot at either school. Is it worth the risk?

What risk? The worst is that I stay in the school I’m enrolled in the fall which might not be that bad. Had anyone done this before?

I haven’t done any research but if I accept Cal’s admission I am agreeing to enroll in SPRING 2011 and I made no promises to them and it’s really none of their business on what I do in FALL 2010.

Except USC could also decide to kick you out.

And you can argue that it’s not their business what you do in the fall semester all you want. The fact is, you are explicitly not allowed to do what you want.
