I am just a little confused about this EA/ED thing. lol.

So I was wondering:

If I apply ED to Columbia on Nov. 1st, 2007, can I apply EA to another college at that same time or does applying ED prevent me from applying early anywhere else?

You can only apply to one college ED, and it is binding if you are accepted. If you apply EA, you can apply to as many schools Early Action that fall under the same plan.

If the college is SCEA, you can only apply to one. I hope this helps. :)

^Yeah, Take ED seriously, its not something to decide on lightly. Weigh your decisions heavily, and be sure that if you get in, that is the place you would want to spend your 4 years of undergrad at. Another thing, take into consideration financial need. As a rule of thumb, don't do ED ( but take advantage of EA/SCEA) if you think you're going to depend a lot on university aid because even if the school says that they guarantee meeting financial need, this is a somewhat relative statement because the school will be the ones deciding how much you really need ( and this isn't always as high as you'd want/expect).

You can do ED and EA if both school lets you.

Columbia allows you.

Some very popular choices is this combination:

Columbia ED + MIT EA + Chicago EA + Caltech EA + UMich EA

If you are up to snuff, you will get accepted to at least 2 (UMich EA being the "safety"). However, keep in mind if you do get into Columbia you can't apply anywhere else.

Yale SCEA, you can only apply there and no where else. Same goes with Stanford. Everywhere else (Ivies) is Early-Decision as well.
