If I can do this, anyone can.

For all of you saying that this story isn’t impressive because his GPA wasn’t that bad to begin with, some people have different standards than others and know their true potential. In high school I got a 3.33 GPA and to me that is a failure.

ummmm… as great as this sounds and as much as i’d like to feel inspired…
how does a gpa get up that much? from a 3.2 to a 3.8? i’m a bit confused.

nice! shows how hard work pays off

This is kinda my similar situation ! This is my junior year, and I’m in a similar situation.

Im in IB, and my GPA isn’t what I want.

So this summer, I’m taking alot of honors classes to bring up my GPA to hopefully a 3.9 so I can apply to USC film. thanks for the inspiration.

3.2 —> 3.4 —> 4.4 —> 4.5

Do the math. Don’t really know how many time’s I’ve explained this.

Edit: And taking summer school (junior to senior year) was the most boring, dreadful, and depressing thing I’ve ever willingly done, but truly the most helpful. Being able to wipe out 2-3 classes I think, maybe just 2, allowed me to add in a few more classes that I really wanted to take senior year (AP Macro & AP Gov)

Don’t just go around asking for help when you need it. Ask for help from the right people/sources, because “help” can be dangerously detrimental to you if not of the right sort.

I should know. My parents signed me up for loads of “prep” classes first semester junior year; they rarely helped with schoolwork and served only to take up my time and fatten the wallets of others. By the end of first semester finals, I was a sleep-deprived maniac with a 3.3 for my first semester of Junior year.

The issue here is whether or not someone matures enough to accomplish what you’ve (The OP) accomplished. For me, it’s been on and off. 2.73 Frosh year. 3.75 (unweighed academic) Soph year. As for Junior year… I got rather ticked at “the system” and (along with poor planning attributed to myself and my well-meaning-but-befuddled parents) I got a 3.3 first semester Junior year. Right now I’m looking at a 3.75 for my second semester, but also a possible 4-0.

i wish i seen this before i graduate. this motivated me.

That’s super inspiring to hear! My GPA went from 3.7 to 3.5, luckily I think I’m getting a 4.0 for this year (even though I procrastinated like no other), and I am looking at some of the schools you got into, CornellPerson.

@btotheg, thank you so much for creating this thread. I feel like most of the people on CC are so much better at me academically, and it’s refreshing to see people who may have slacked off a little but were still successful in the long run. (:

I love this story.

Can this thread be moved to the lessons learned section?

do you think colleges like seeing an increase like that where you started off a slacker and rose up or consistency?

because my freshman year i got a 90/91 (3.6/.7 GPA) with 2 honors
sophomore year, 90/91 with 4 honors
junior year, 90/91 with 3 APs and 2 honors

i plan to continue to increase class difficulty senior year and keep around the same GPA…

jw.

Amazing! Congrats. on your success! I loved the quote also, I am going to stick it near my desk too! :)

I think that they really like seeing increasing good habits until it is perfect and consistent, it shows a lot more of the person’s personality and how she/he adapts to making a right choice.

i am in the same.exact.position.as.you!
I see you applied to Umich, and i really REALLY want to go there too, but, i read that they look at unweighted, and my unweighted is a wopping 3.46-that is, if i get straight a’s first semester of senior year…my weighted is a 3.99…again, with the straight a’s!
i asked on cc, and someone said i probably wouldn’t make it to umich with my gpa, but the thing is, there was a huge, HUGE jump from my classes… freshman year i had a 3.0 weighted, sophomore was a 3.57, and junior year was a 4.71, so would they take that into account?

■■■■ facebook is so distracting. yeah, i’m going to disable it for my high school duration.
i keep telling myself that i want to disable it, but then i HAVE to know what’s going on UGH
SCREW YOU FACEBOOK CREATOR.
lol

What an inspiring story. Thank you!

Love this! =)

wow, this is really inspiring.
i’m currently in almost the same exact position as you were in freshman year. a 3.3GPA.
i’m gonna read this thread everyday of sophomore year next year and make sure i get that 4.0! thanks for the inspiration.

and does anybody have any study habits advice or hindsights and regrets?

Bump, I think this story is very important to read
