If I can't send an ACT score report...Can I still go to college?!

Okay so my family is under some heavy financial obligations at the moment and we don't have enough money to send an official ACT score report to any of my schools ..... my scores are reported on my transcript though. If I explain my circumstances will the college just look at the score reported on my transcript!?

I don't know what to do!??? Some things have happened unexpectedly and my family is unable to come up with the money :( I'm so upset, and I can't stop crying:( Please Help!!!

And I can't apply for a fee waiver, so please do not suggest this.

I'm applying to these schools:
UPENN
Cornell
Vanderbilt
The College of William and Mary
University of Virginia
Indiana University
University of Michigan
Miami University (Oxford, Ohio)
Villanova University
The College of Wooster (Wooster, Ohio)
Centre College (Danville, KY)

Do you think I could work something out with the college?

Indiana will take the score reported on your transcript. I'm sorry, but I don't know about the others.

I'm afraid I don't know of a college that will accept from a transcript - the scores most likely have to be an official ACT report.

There is no way to get a few $? It's late for the ACT scores to be sent.

There's no one that you can borrow money from? A relative or maybe a close friend?

Maybe if you email the admissions offices of those schools?

No, unfortunately I can't borrow the money either : (

I also don't know of any college that will accept scores from a transcript. Maybe the best way to go is to call each school and explain your particular situation. They may have some flexibility for special circumstances.

I don't know how legal these are, but these are some options:

1) Get your counselor to write a letter of extenuating financial circumstances; ask the school to help you out with the funds. Maybe you can work something out where you pay the school back later.

2) Ask your relatives for the money.

3) Get a friend with a nice parent to pay for the score reports for now. Make sure you tell them you'll pay them back.

4) Talk a to a teacher who may be willing to pay for it.

5) Do some babysitting/shovel snow/run errands for a couple of bucks.

I don't know what to tell you except that I find it really impossible that you can't pay for the reports. If you are really low-income, your counseling office should have helped you by now. If you aren't and your parents are being stingy, then you need to convince them that this is for college and it's really important.

If your parents can afford internet, they can afford to pay for your score reports. I don't see what the problem is here..

Do your parents have a credit card? Can't those things be paid with credit cards? It'll be an easy thing to pay back, they don't cost that much.

i've never heard of a school accepting any standardized scores from a transcript. a real no-no. it's hard to imagine NO ONE will loan you the money.it's just too important for your college process. i don't know what the dollar amount is, but it feels like a sabotage going on here or something....i don't mean to be rude, but i can't understand this. SURELY there's SOMEONE who'll loan it, even a guidance counselor or church person??

I agree with happycollegemom.. a friend's parent helped me out with some of the college application costs. Finding a nice parent among your group of friends shouldn't be THAT hard. After all, it's not like you're asking to buy useless stuff. This is for college!

I know its weird.....but I just cannot borrow the money. Do you think the college would understand?

Why can't you borrow money? Send an email to every college you applied to. And when you get back to school, get your counselor to send one, too. Then, figure out a way to send those reports. You are going to have to either borrow the money or get a job and pay it off.

cannot or will not? have you tried?

and, no, i don't think they'll understand. unfortunately, especially with the enormous numbers of college applicants out there, they can't take the time to fool around with absent scores. consider it as yet another screening tool by admissions. you gotta get the money.

Yes, I have tried.....but noone is will help

well, it would be officially reported on my transcript

yes, but that's not considered an "official report". ( i think this is about the idea of cheating.) i have an idea...there's a moderator on CC called "tokenadult". he's incredibly knowledgable and IF there's a way around this, he'll know! try PMing him.

no, I didn't send my scores to any school before

this isn't making any sense. look at what the posters are all saying...what do you think an admissions officer will say? does someone not want you to go to college? if you want this, go for it. i agree with everyone, you can get this money. by the way, how are you going to PAY for college, if you can't pay a simple fee? again, not trying to be annoying, but something seems suspicious here.....

My family recently moved so I really don't have anyone here to ask. ugh
