If I could change one thing....

DEFINITELY my GPA. I wish I would have taken an easier chemistry/math class, as both chemistry classes at my school (besides AP chem) both read ‘chemistry’ on our transcripts.

I will be applying to various colleges next year.

LOL my gpa is a completely horrendouse am hiopping to get a 2200+ sat to make up for it… i dug up a big hole in my frehsman year eneded with a terrible terrible gpa

I would stay in band. I gave up piccolo for 2 AP classes and honestly, not worth it.

Higher gpa.

GPA. I’m not a consistent worker…

Definitely better ECs for me. My GPA and scores are great, but I have the least impressive extracurriculars out of all of my friends. I feel like I didn’t really do much at all. But I did get into my first choice (early decision), so it worked out.

Definitely investing more time in teacher recommendations to get better letters of rec.

The amount of money my parents make. Financial aid would be really nice.

Easy question. I would definitely have gotten better freshman grades so that my application would have been competitive for the ivies, UChicago, Duke, etc. The rest of my profile isn’t bad (2300+ SAT, 14 AP’s, USAPHO semifinalist), but my GPA lowered my competitiveness a lot.

To any future applicants who’re reading this, GPA is the MOST IMPORTANT facet of your app. A strong GPA can overcome almost any deficiency, including sub-2200 SAT scores. Although they’re nice to have, high test scores aren’t important so don’t worry about SAT’s, SAT II’s, AP’s, and IB’s. Instead, focus your efforts on getting good grades and taking a rigorous courseload.

Grades definitely, haha. The grades I see others have on here make mine look pathetic. C’s aren’t even that bad :/

Polled some friends and most say grades or extracurriculars because they are the most important items in your application and take more than the effort of a few hours (interview), days (essays), or even months (SATs).

If you take high school level classes in middle school, you have to start being aware of your GPA before high school. And if your school has a weighted GPA system, then taking more high-GPA courses could make a big difference.

Impressive extracurriculars are usually what helps the great applicants stand out to the top schools because they show true passion and initiative.

So start preparing for college early and you’ll finish high school with fewer or no regrets.

@OneMorningLeft,

C’s aren’t bad if your career aspirations are working in retail or food service. I am NOT even being sarcastic here. If you genuinely want to work within these industries and it doesn’t make you feel mediocre, by all means, continue “passing” your classes. Otherwise, you need bump it up to at least a b average if you want to go anywhere.

I’m an older adult with kids who can’t move, trying to go back to school, and need to commute to school. So I voted for the wish to apply to more schools, so I’d have better chances and more options.

It’s not listed as a choice but I would love to change my race and gender.
