If I decide to withdraw from ED

If I decide to withdraw from ED but want to be considered as RD applicant instead,
will I be able to change/update my common app if I already submitted to the college for ED?

I want to change my essay, if I get to change from ED to RD… do you guys know if I could do that?

My guess is that only admissions can answer that question.

is it okay if I call them and ask them?

You can ask, but it will raise some questions, such as Why not ED? and even more perplexing: why do you want to change your essay?

Okay, I’m curious too. You can change things, but it may not be viewed very favorably. (Imagine the hoops the office folks must jump through trying to locate your file?)

But, I’m not an admissions person. I suggest you ask your GC. He/she might give more helpful advice.

I don’t think admissions will question your decision to change from ED to RD.

Yes, it’s OK to call.

I should think in these days of austerity, that schools will totally understand thinking twice about applying ED. After all, they don’t want you to back out if and when you have been accepted because of financial concerns. With RD you will probably have several options from which to choose.

No, you will not be able to change your essay. You can’t change any part of the Common App once it’s submitted to that school. It doesn’t matter if you’re applying ED or RD; once it’s submitted, it’s submitted.

Any changes will need to be forwarded separately.

Unless it’s for financial reasons, your decision will not be look upon favorably.

That’s only once the student is accepted. Before the school considers the application, the student can generally contact the school and say, “Please move my application from ED to RD” without any repercussions, and without even having to give a reason.

Yes, my daughter did this for another college. No need to give reason. And it did not affect her acceptance (she was accepted RD). NO WORRIES!

I disagree with you, Lobzz. Chances are the admissions committee never even knows that the application status changed from ED to RD. It will not be held against you if you change.

Hmm. You’re right, I guess. I just thought, “If I were an adcom at Brown, I’d frown upon something like that.” But that wouldn’t make sense, so there is probably no harm in changing from ED to RD. Good luck :)

hey guys thanks for all your comments.
Fortunately, after talking with my parents and my school counselor, I just decided to not change from ED to RD.
Hopefully, I made the right decision.

This has been a great help. especially since I changed from ED to RD, and I’ve been worried ever since. --;;

fireandrain- is it really true that admissions officers might not even know?
