If I delay university for a year/semester, will they look at my grade 12 marks instea

Grade 10&11 were messed up and horrible years for me, and I went through a lot of hardship with personal and family medical problems. In addition to the emotional stress, we had to move countries in order to be treated at a more advanced hospital, and this greatly hindered my education because I had to drop all of my AP classes and end school involvement and leadership.

I'm in grade 12 now, and if I apply to my dream school (NYU) in January, they will see that my g10 and 11 average was only around 80%. If I take some time off after highschool, would they look at my diploma marks/completed grade 12 courses instead? I am working on my grade 12 courses now, and because I am smart, expect to finish them with marks above 90%. I am also doing SAT prep.

Thank you! I appreciate any help at all!

They will not look at your grade 12 marks instead, they will look at all of your marks, including grade 12.

If you take a year off however, you need to do something productive with that year off. Gap years in the US and not looked favorably upon like they are in the UK. If you’re going to take a gap year, find an internship or something similar to put on your CV/application that will benefit you.
