Hello! So I do the IB in Dubai and I really want to apply to NYU. On their website it says that I have to do one of the following:
-SAT
-ACT
-IB
and there were other options but those are of my concerns. Does this apply to every college in NYU or are they specific requirements regarding the general requirements for NYU?
NYU requires standardized tests. This is the complete list of options:
If you don’t have any of them, the admissions officer will move onto the next application from the pile of 60,000.
International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma is on the list and that’s what I’m doing currently, so is that list representative for every college in NYU? or do certain colleges have to have standardized testings regardless if you’ve done the International Baccalaureate
It looks like you could use IB Diploma scores in place of SAT/ACT scores for admission to NYU.
HOWEVER if you are a standard applicant you will apply to schools in November of your senior year (that’s when test scores would be due), but will not sit for your IB exams until May. Thus your IB scores would come out to late for the purposes of admission.
So they wouldn’t use my predicted grades?
They won’t use your predicted grades. Predicted grades aren’t standardized. Actual IB grades are.
You will need SAT or ACT scores or the actual IB diploma or actual scores from 3 IB HL exams - from IBO, not your school.
These standardized tests are offered in Dubai. Just take them already.
No they won’t use your predicted scores because, as boulders said, those aren’t standardized. They’re closer to class grades than test scores.
You’re going to need to take anther set of tests unless you choose to take a gap year. As GMTplus7 said, many of these exams are offered around the world (specifically in Dubai), so you should have opportunities to take them.
This is what they say about IB students applying to NYU
What if my test results won’t be available by the application deadline because of a delay or other reason?
SAT, SAT Subject, ACT, and AP tests only need to be taken by the application deadline; it’s OK if final results aren’t available by the application deadline. However, we do need to receive official SAT or ACT scores before making an admissions offer.
If your results are delayed (because of the testing agency or natural disaster resulting in school closings), you can self-report your scores by emailing a screenshot of them to us. This might expedite our review of your application.
“Predicted scores” for other tests, such as IB and A Levels, can be submitted using one of the following methods:
Through the Common Application website
; or
Mailed on official school letterhead in a sealed and signed envelope; or
Emailed from a clearly identifiable school email address; or
Submitted using the NYU Predicted Results Form (have a school official do this).
Note: NYU has the right to withdraw an offer of admission if your final test scores are not within an acceptable range of your predicted results.
According to this you will be able to apply using your ‘‘predicted scores’’ for IB, hope this helps.
NYU accepts predicted IB scores and total with EE, CAS, and TOK; you will need to score within the range indicated (ie., if you score a 5 in something rather than 6, you are okay as long as you make it up and your total adds up to the predicted range) but you can be rescinded if your IB score falls through.
Using SAT/SAT SUbjects or ACT scores guarantees this doesn’t happen to you no matter what. But if you feel confident in your IB predicted scores, you’re fine applying with only those. I’d recommend a 36+ with a 6 or 7 in your chosen major field.
