If I don't get into NYU, I'm not going to college.

Just kidding! Haha sorta. <_<

Hey I'm just wondering if anybody got into NYU 2012 on Early Decision. I remember reading through some NYU acceptance thread on this site (can't seem to find it now though), and all the people in there had like crazy GPAs and SAT Scores and Extracurriculars. I saw some people really high SAT scores that got rejected, all Stern rejects though.

I'm currently a Junior and NYU's like my dream. I want to go there so badly that, I dunno, there's no words to describe it. When they send me their Information Booklet, I just couldn't stop smelling it cause it smelled like success. :P Seriously. Lol haha. So yeah I'm just trying to maximize my chances of getting into NYU, because I think I'm pretty much borderline right now.

I haven't taken any SATs yet, looking to take SAT I in May, two SAT IIs in June, and another SAT I in October. I am currently in SAT Prep school though and that's what I got on my most recent practice test. I've been improving, I got 166 on my PSATs. I'm aiming for around 2100, so if I try hard enough I could probably get 700s in Math and Reading for an even 1400. I'm also hoping to raise my GPA to a 94/95. In my Senior Year, I'm going to take AP English, AP Economics, and AP Psychology. That's just about for safe zone for CAS right? I know there's no way I can get into Stern so that's definitely out of the question, lol. So ED would be the best me right? Since I'm just about like the average CAS student, I'm not super OD genius despite the whole asian thing, lol.

Oh yeah and I'm pretty sure being Asian doesn't help me in the slightest. Unless....does NYU ask for specific ethnicities on their application because I might be able to stand out as one of the few Indonesians lol.

So yeah, I'm gunna try to get on another team next year, tennis, and I'm going to run for Arista (NHS) President, so hopefully that'll give me some more cred.

I could use all the advice I could get. Especially if you got into NYU on ED. Please people, don't let me fail at life, lol. So chance me por favor!

What no one wants to me go to college? :(

Yay, NYU is my dream school too :)
Everything looks great except your GPA, which might be a tad on the low side, but your EC's look pretty good. If you can, try to bring up that SAT as well.

Really? Cool maybe I'll see you there if I can manage to get in lol.

Yeah my GPA isn't all that spectacular, I'm hoping I can up my SAT score to around 1350/2100 cause that's about the average NYU student. And maybe a fantastic essay to win them over, lol.

Are you going to do ED too?

I'm not gonna do ED because I've heard that it doesn't really increase your chances, but I could be wrong. And my GPA isn't so great either, so I want to have enough of senior year to bring that up. lol.

Really? In the threads, I saw people with 2040s that got into Stern ED while people with 2200s got rejected from Stern RD. Pretty big difference. I need that difference, cause I'm pretty much borderline right now so I need something like that to tip me over.

I don't think they'll be able to see your Senior year grades in time. Cause, RD applications are due like in December/January, and I don't know about you but the 1st Semester doesn't end for NYC kids until like febuary. But I could be wrong.

What school are you going for? CAS? Stern? I'm going for CAS.

You're fine. If you apply ED to CAS, you'll be in. If not, you've got a 50/50 shot. Make sure you've got some demonstrated interest/

Yeah I'm gunna like write to them everyday and stalk the admissions board. Actually I would. Maybe that's why they don't release their home addresses. :P

I'm going to go visit it twice. This friday with my girlfriend and another time during the summer with my mom probably. Is it uncommon for people to visit NYU/colleges in general twice?

And I was actually thinking of joining the Gay Straight Alliance at my school if that'll increases my chances just the slightest, lol. Cause NYU's all about tolerance and diversity and all that good stuff right?

Oh, really? Then I'm probably applying ED as well. And yeah, I'm applying to CAS.

applying ED does help, but your gpa and sat's are still on the lower half, and i would recommend not just joining clubs to make yourself look better, im pretty sure that doesnt help at all.

yeah NYU is awesome...I wanna go there for undergraduate too. my gpa is around yours also..not amazing but im hoping my SAT's will get to about 2200 and that my EC's demonstrate well. Also i heard they are very essay based in their acceptance...so we should start on those ASAP! gluck!

Yeah I'm always on the lower half. -_- Haha and yeah I'm pretty active in all my clubs, I was just wondering. It can't hurt right lol.

Wooo CAS! Do you know what major yet snowgurl? I'm probably going to put Undeclared.

Shiz 2200 would practically guarantee you into CAS nieljohn. :P I'm just hoping for 2100, but I'll probably end up around low 2000s. My Pre-AP English teacher made our class do our personal statements already, I didn't do so hot so I gotta rewrite mine for sure. Gallatin I hear is mostly essay-based.

Gallatin is easier to get into GPA and SAT-wise than CAS, I think. I know a girl with sub-500 M (probably not much better than 650 CR) who got in to Gallatin.

Both your GPA and SAT are on the low side (for CAS). Bring your GPA up to at least 3.65 or your SAT up to at least 1950 and I think you'll have a good chance, especially for ED.

For Stern, no chance. Admissions there are almost comparable to Ivy League admissions.

Wow she must have been a kickass writor then lol.

Yeah I'm hoping I could bring my average up to a 93/94 (3.8) by the end of this year. To get me out of that danger zone ya know lol. I'm actually hoping for a 2100 on the SAT, but I think I can get at least 2000, been studying OD lol.

Haha yeah my applying to Stern is like dead man walking. :P I'm thinking about applying to Tisch though, cause I wanted to transfer from CAS to Tisch during my sophmore year anyway. Do they mostly consider the academics or your porfolio/audition? What about a kid with good academics but mediocure porfolio? Cause I really don't have any experience or anything. I want to major in Film & Television.

Yeah, I'm majoring in biology :) But I'm really not sure yet, all I know is that I'm applying to CAS. Unless Gallatin really is easier to get into...
Also, what's with their GSP program? Bimachris, would you still go if you were placed in that GSP program or whatever?

Tisch focuses relatively more on audition/portfolio than SATs/GPA, from my understanding, but SAT/GPA still aren't out of the question. I think your SAT/GPA may be fine for Tisch, but the question is whether you have an amazing audition/portfolio.

GSP is basically where you go if you are "semi-deferred" from the school you originally applied to. You take GSP classes, which tend to be easier than classes in other schools, and must maintain a B average or better for the first two years in order to be transferred into the school of your original choice after 2 years.

I actually think Gallatin's a lot harder to get into, because so much emphasis is placed on your essay that there is no "safe" academic range.

GPS? HELL YEAH! :D Some people think of it as sort of a second class NYU school but it's still NYU and a lot of people still like GPS, and it's not like the students are treated as inferior or anything, lol. Most GSP students originally applied to CAS, I know that much. Many people may interpret it as "you're not good enough, but I don't want to reject you" but I like to think of it as a second chance. :D

And after visiting NYU yesterday (I'm more in love with it now after seeing it than before, if that's possible haha), I'm really considering applying to Tisch now. Internal transfer to Tisch really is hard, and if I'm going to end of at Tisch anyway, I don't want to lose out on a whole year of experience you know? So I'm going to step out of my comfort zone and apply to Tisch, which for me is a lot riskier but I could benefit so much more.

I need that amazing porfolio. :P For Tisch it's:

Hmm ... I'm not so sure if I agree with that, lol.

I guess I'd still go to GSP too, but I'm really not sure.
