If I don't get into NYU, I'm not going to college.

Oh well, at least I hope the other NYu kids don't shun them. :P Hahaha I don't really have any proof lol.

I honestly don't think you have a good shot. You're UW GPA: 3.3 is too low. 1910 SAT is below average. Extra curriculars are just average. I'm sorry to be harsh but I've seen countless people with better stats and extra curriculars be rejected ED. Good luck though.

Yeah, I kinda agree with protege. NYU is getting really hard to get into these days with SO many people applying. I hate to be so negative, but you never know, and that shouldn't stop you from applying. Good luck.

bimachris,, i disagree with post 22 and 23. You do have a shot, Just try to bring up your GPA. If you're applying to Tisch, then start working on that amazing portfolio. Can you take some class this summer, that focuses on film and/or television, etc.? You can write about that experience and it might help you get in.. Looks good on the resume. all things are possible. If you search on these boards, you'll see stats from scores lower than what you propose. YOu just have to find a way to stand out among th rest. ED you have a better chance.

Wow, looking back, I sound like a retard. Haha ^thanks jmldouglas

Well lets see. I'll give you guys some updates. I took the May SAT I, got myself a 1290/1900 (680 CR 610 M 610 W). Been going to math tutoring and I got a 1310/1950 on my last practice test on friday. Hopefully I can get around a 1400 by Oct.

I took SAT IIs in June for the hell of it, since I got a fee waiver. Needless to say, I did really bad, I didn't take it seriously at all and now I'm regretting it cause NYU will still see the scores even if Tisch doesn't require them. Heh 660 World History, 650 US History, 560 Lit. I might retake them in November.

I actually shot a film in July for my portfolio after getting a HV20 (sexiest camcorder ever I swear haha). Everyone I showed it to so far loved it, so I'm pretty confident in my portfolio. My GPA is now 3.5 (UW) and 3.8 (W) and I got a 4 on AP US.

I went to a film program at Loyola Marymount University over the summer, took College Now classes at Queens College, and interned at a local production company (weddings and stuff like that).

So yeah, I'm pretty confident in myself but it's NYU so you never know. I'm really hoping my portfolio will pull through for me. I'm working on the application right now, just got down a good rough draft of my personal statement and...yeah. I'll get the results in mid-December so I'll tell you guys what happened. I'm mad pumped. :D

='[ I know what you mean! Like getting the booklet just makes your day (and I also smell the packet as well!) But yeah don't worry you did so much better than I did so I'm sure you'll get into it..Good Luck!

I really really REALLY want to get into NYU as well. I'm new and idk if I should post this here but here is my stuff so I'd like some advice as well. I'm also a junior in high school (you're probably a senior now bimachris).
I haven't taken the SAT yet but I got a 201 on the PSAT (53 reading, 72 math, 76 writing) and I want to improve my 620 on the Bio SAT II and my 630 in math.
My GPA is about 3.9 unweighted and 4.9 weighted.
I'm probably in the top 10 of my class (maybe top 5 but I don't wanna push it).
I've taken AP World History, and this year I'm taking AP Language, AP US History, and AP Biology. I plan to take 5 more APs senior year.
I'm in Mathletes, Video Yearbook, the school newspaper, Knowledge Masters, Tri-M, Chorus, Science Research, Vocal Ensemble, and National Honor Society.
I haven't really volunteered anywhere long-term but I do little things through my clubs (such as singing for the elderly for Tri-M).
So yeah that's it. Again I have no idea whether I should be posting here so I'll move this if I have to.

yeah dude ur fine. Except a little FYI here an 88 average is a GPA of 3.5 not 3.3 unweighted...just thought id share that =)

Hearing you got a fee waiver makes me worry. NYU is not great when it comes to financial aid. In fact, working with low income kids in NYC, year after year I am shocked at the bad packages. How are you planning to pay? Are you applying for outside scholarships?

He got in guys.

Dude ur gpa has to improve significantly and yeah can message me on profile and tell me where u got that nyu booklet i want one too! thanks

i dont think ud get into stern. but id say good chance if you ED to different schools. UR GPA is the killer, but they do accept kids with 88 averages. id say very low reach

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/623727-chances-would-appreciated-chances-back.html

yo, bimachris got in, why is everyone still chancing this lol

i say 100% chances since you got in.

LOL gee thanks for the vote of confidence guys. :)

Whee: Getting a 201 on your PSAT is really good. I got like a 166, haha. In the end I got a 2040, so you can definitely hit at least 2200 I think with a lot more practice tests. Try to get that reading up, since NYU along with most east-coast schools don't look at the writing section. But in general you look really good. Just write a kickass essay and work hard on the short answers, get recommendations, and you're in. Apply early if you really really want to go to NYU, because they are SO much more lenient during early decision.

I was actually applying to a lot of outside scholarships cause I was worried that NYU would only give me 25-30K max. But I was very surprised and happy to see how generous they were to me. And I'm not the only one either. NYU is surprisingly generous to low-income kids, though a large amount of the money came from talent-based scholarships.

I am going into 11th grade in 33 days. I left sophomore year with a 85 average :frowning: . But anywho I really want to go to nyu tisch. I am going to by the official sat study guide. Any advice on what else I should do because that gpa is horrible :’(

did you get in?

Hi I have a bit of a dillema. I got accepted to both NYU and Purdue but NYU didnt give me any aid. My father is unemployed and my mother can only contribute about 5000 a year to my education.Purdue gave me $40,000 ($10,000 per year). I am planning to be a finance major and got accepted to both schools business schools. what do you guys think would be the best choice, is NYU worth it? to take out the loans?

I have 3.3 GPA (84) and roughly a 1900 SAT score. I am taking it again and hoping to get a 2000. I took the ACT, and hope to get above a 28…I have many extra curricular activities and have also done a lot of volunteer work. I also attended NYU Precollege and passed with an “A” final average. Do you think it’ll be possible to get into NYU College of Arts and Sciences?

Hi! I know this is a really old thread but my stats are similar to the people on her so I was wondering if someone could chance me.
GPA - 3.6 W; my school doesn’t do unweighted
SAT - 2150 (620CR, 730M, 800W); 1350/1600
ACT - 30
Tons of volunteer work and I dance so that isn’t a school sport but I’ve been doing it forever. I hold officer positions in a couple of clubs and went to nationals in Speech and Debate (policy debate) my junior year. I’m applying ED 2 to CAS since NYU is my dream school; I’d also be fine getting into LSP and then switching to CAS later…

Have you checked the Net Price Calculator? NYU is not good with financial aid and if you need FA you may have a nasty surprise :s
