Is it really all that beneficial to minor in something as well?
Currently, I'm thinking about doing a double major in Actuarial mathematics and Econ. I'm thinking about minoring in Latin, but I don't quite know if it's worth it to have a minor. Will having a minor with the two majors make me look better when I'm interviewing for jobs later in my life?
Any advice?
thanks!

damn, you are gonna have a packed schedule

my engineering advisor said it didn’t really matter, but that’s engineering

If you are interested in actuarial work, passing exams is what matters:
[Associate of the Society of Actuaries (ASA) - Requirements](Associate of the Society of Actuaries (ASA) | SOA)

I can’t imagine that a Latin minor will confer any benefits beyond personal gratification.

The actuarial math program at Michigan is very strong.

minoring in a dead language won’t really help you at all, so i wouldn’t do it unless you’re legitimately and passionately interested in Latin. and double majoring could potentially set you apart a little, but landing jobs is about gpa (to start with) and then it just goes to interpersonal/interviewing skills, as most people have described in other threads.

so again, unless youre passionate about both of those equally and you think you’ll be doing yourself a disservice for not majoring in both of them, i don’t think the reward outweights the cost.

my 2 cents

lol latin.

Unless you’re trying to decrypt some centuries-old dead guy’s finance notebook, its almost useless to the employer. Slightly useful cause it shows some diversity in your game.

Minor in Latin if you really like it (and are good at it). Otherwise the classes will just consume your time that could otherwise be spent on your majors (which actually matter)

Michigan is one of the handful of universities that pioneered Actuarial Mathematics and remains one of the very best in the field. Doubling that with Economics is excellent. I would not bother with a minor unless you personally want it. However, from your original post, it seems you don’t really care about it and are just htinking about it if it would benefit you in some way. It will not.

thanks for the responses guys!

I’m triple majoring with Actuarial math, economics, and statistics. I also have passed 4 actuarial exams, about to take my 5th. Its doable, but takes perfect planning. Feel free to PM me if you have any questions about anything

There must be a lot of overlap
