If I get a college-sponsored scholarship, does that make me ineligible for the $2500?

My first choice is Columbia, but for the purposes of money, I plan on listing BU as my first-choice to be considered for one of their half-tuition scholarships. On the NMS Application Instructions, it says that "consideration for a college-sponsored Merit scholarship award is limited to Finalists who have not been offered any other NM scholarships (corporate, National, or college-sponsored). No student will receive more than one scholarship offer from NMSC."

So, am I considered for the college-sponsored scholarship or the National scholarship first? I would rather get the $2500 that works everywhere than the half-tuition at BU. So, am I okay in listing BU as my first choice or will I be automatically taken out of consideration for the $2500 if I do so (because BU gives a college-sponsored scholarship)?

Indicating BU as your first choice won’t make you ineligible for the $2,500, but accepting BU’s half-tuition scholarship would make you ineligible for the $2,500 if it is awarded through NMSC. At least that’s my impression.

That makes more sense. Thanks silverturtle!

And I am very honored to have my thread host your 10,000th post, =P
